Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey had a lot to say about NFL quarterbacks this offseason including Eli Manning. Now they're set to face off with the Jaguars visiting the Giants in Week 1.

Ramsey called out Manning’s ability and openly questioned whether Odell Beckham Jr. was the biggest factor in the limited success Manning has had over the past couple of years. Now Ramsey will line up opposite OBJ with Eli throwing his way in one of the most intriguing position matchups for Week 1 of the NFL season.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Jacksonville is currently listed as a three-point favorite on the road against New York. The Jaguars, which are coming off an impressive year in which they fell one win shy of a Super Bowl appearance, are 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 road games overall. Jacksonville is also 5-1 ATS in its last six meetings with the Giants.

Meanwhile, New York has traditionally been a slow starting team from a betting perspective with a 2-5 ATS record in its last seven September games. However, the Giants have covered seven of their last 10 home games as an underdog of three points or more.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Expectations are extremely high for a Jacksonville side that went 12-4 a year ago. The Jaguars own arguably the NFL’s best defense and that group will be a major key to their success this season. Calais Campbell, Malik Jackson and Yannick Ngakoue will be extremely fired up for the opportunity to go up against a limited Giants offensive line and make life miserable for Manning. With Ramsey matching up against Beckham, it will be very interesting to see whether or not the Jacksonville defense can shut down the retooled New York offense.

The Jaguars offense is led by star running back Leonard Fournette but has its own question marks with wide receiver Marqise Lee out for the year and Blake Bortles back under center. Bortles looked very shaky in the preseason and needs to settle down if Jacksonville is going to contend for a Super Bowl. If he can eliminate the turnovers, then Fournette and the defense should give the Jaguars a good chance to win this game straight up on the road in Week 1.

New York Giants

The Giants will have their hands full trying to keep the pressure off of Manning in this one. Jacksonville’s defense is capable of absolutely suffocating opponents and New York’s offensive line is still a weakness despite some offseason upgrades. The good news is that Beckham and Sterling Shepard are healthy at wide receiver. The bad news is that Manning might not have the time he needs to get them the football in this contest. The Giants are hoping that rookie running back Saquon Barkley can help provide balance on offense and limit what the Jaguars pass rush can do by running the football effectively early and often. However, the Jaguars defense will be just as capable defending the run as they are at defending the pass.

New York will need a lot more from a defense that ranked 31st in the NFL in total yards allowed last season. The additions of Alec Ogletree and rookie Dalvin Tomlinson help, but the Giants are still fairly thin on that side of the football. If they can move the ball on offense and at least slow down Fournette, New York might be able to keep this game close. However, the more likely scenario is that Jacksonville pounds the rock on the ground effectively on offense and plays suffocating defense en route to a Week 1 road win.
