The Jaguars offence fell flat in a 13-6 upset loss to the visiting Houston Texans last week, dumping them to 2-3-0 on the season and into third place in the hard fought AFC South standings. The Colts moved past the Jags in the divisional standings with a sloppy 12-9 overtime win over the underachieving Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football, but remain winless in three dates with AFC South rivals so far this season.

There has been plenty of line movement since the Colts opened as 2.5-point favourites. With Jacksonville commanding 61% of the betting action, the Colts faded to 1-point chalk before rebounding to their current position at -2. The total has also been on the move since opening at 44. With 74% of sports bettors backing the UNDER, the total dipped as low s 41 before climbing back to 42.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Sunday afternoon’s matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium marks the second and final regular season meeting between these AFC South rivals. The Jaguars stunned the Colts with a decisive 24-0 victory as 3-point home underdogs when Indy visited in Week 2. That victory extended a steady stretch of success for the home team, which has won 15 of the past 16 meetings between these teams, including each of the past 10. Low scoring has been a recurring theme in recent clashes, with the total failing to top 42 in each of the games during a 4-0-0 run for the UNDER. Indeed, visiting teams have struggled to score in head-to-head action, averaging just 13.1 points per game over their past 10 tilts.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Winners of just three games last season, the Jaguars have teased fans with flashes of their potential in the early going of the season. The Jags have entered the fourth quarter leading or tied in three of their five outings to date, but managed to come away with just win in those contests. Indeed, this is team that has consistently started strong, scoring first in each of their first five games, and outscoring opponents by an 27-7 overall margin in first-quarter action. However, they have managed to muster an average of just six points after recess over their past four games.

After connecting on six total scoring passes over the first three weeks of the season, things have quieted down considerably for quarterback Trevor Lawrence, whose lone scoring pass over the past seven quarters came in garbage time during a 29-21 loss to Philadelphia two weeks ago. Lawrence’s efforts have not been helped by Christian Kirk, who has seen his production steadily diminish since racking up 117 receiving yards in his Jacksonville debut in Week 1.

Indianapolis Colts

With last week’s victory over Denver, the Colts improved to 2-1-0 in their past three games. However, this team has yet to flash the offensive form that was expected in the wake of acquiring Matt Ryan. The veteran quarterback’s struggles since arriving from Atlanta via trade during the offseason continued in last week’s ugly win over the Broncos, in which he completed just 26 of 41 pass attempts for 251 yards, no scored, and two picks. Overall, Ryan has now tossed just five touchdown passes against seven interceptions, and has received little help from a cobbled offensive line that allowed him to be sacked a league-high 21 times.

In addition, the 37-year-old has completed just two scoring passes over the past two games, and has seen just one of his five touchdown passes when the team wasn’t trailing on the scoreboard. One bright spot has been the Colts rush defense, which ranks third in yards per game allowed, and allowed just one scoring run over the past three games.
