Jaguars vs. Bills Point Spread: NFL Week 5 Odds, Prediction

Anyone doubting Buffalo after their season-opening loss is likely rethinking their stance after the Bills’ 48-20 home victory against Miami last week. Buffalo will now look to extend their three-game winning streak when they face Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It’s Jacksonville’s second consecutive game in London following a 23-7 win over Atlanta last week.

Buffalo is an early 5.5-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, while the total opened at 49.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

This is the first meeting between the teams since Week 9 of the 2021 season, Trevor Lawrence’s rookie year. Lawrence got the better of Buffalo’s Josh Allen in the bizarre 9-6 win, although he threw for just 118 yards and no touchdowns. Allen finished with 264 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Jags come into the week 2-2 straight up on the year, putting them in a four-way tie with Indy, Houston and Tennessee in the crowded AFC South division. This team generally plays up to their opponents’ level, covering in five of their last six games as an underdog and going 7-1 against the spread in their last eight against winning teams. Jacksonville is an even 2-2 on the Over/Under for the year.

Buffalo is 3-1 both SU and ATS, putting them in a tie with Miami for top spot in the AFC East. The Bills are averaging over 4o points across the last three games, although they still sit 2-2 on the Over/Under this season.

Buffalo sits +700 to win the Super Bowl, tied with Philadelphia for the third-shortest odds. Jacksonville is a distant +3000 on the Super Bowl odds.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville snapped a two-game losing skid in last week’s win, but the offence still struggles to remain consistent. The Jags have scored just three offensive touchdowns over the last three games and were held to 300 total yards against Atlanta. Trevor Lawrence, who is averaging less than 236 passing yards per game this season, finished last week’s contest with 207 passing yards and one touchdown. It was the defence that got the job done for Jacksonville against the Falcons. They held Atlanta’s offence to less than 300 yards while recording four sacks and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

This week’s game might be closer than people expect as the Jaguars have a massive rest/travel advantage. Another positive is the upcoming return of left tackle Cam Robinson, who missed the first four games of the season due to suspension.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills have responded since their Week 1 overtime loss against the Jets. Buffalo has torched their opponents over the last three games by a combined score of 123-33 and Josh Allen is coming off one of the best performances of his career last week. Allen threw for 320 yards and four touchdowns while adding another score on the ground. He’s thrown just one interception over the last three games after throwing three in the opener. Stefon Diggs hauled in six receptions for 120 yards and three TDs against the Dolphins, tying him with Miami’s Tyreek Hill for most touchdown receptions through four games (four).

The concern for the Bills right now is the health of the defence. Safety Jordan Poyer missed last week’s game with a knee injury and edge rusher Von Miller hasn’t played yet this season after tearing his ACL last year. Things only got worse against Miami as cornerback Tre’Davious White suffered a season-ending torn Achilles. Miller is eligible to return against Jacksonville, but there’s been no word if he will play.
