Giants vs. Panthers Point Spread: NFL Week 10 Odds, Prediction
This week marks the final international game for the 2024 NFL season. After Brazil and England, it’s Germany’s turn. The Allianz Arena – which the Bundesliga’s Bayern Munich call home – will host the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers. While that sounds depressing given each side’s general level of play this season, both are coming off spirited performances in Week 9.
Our NFL odds have the Giants perched as -6 favourites for this game, with the total set at 41.5.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
As laboured as it’s been for the G-Men in recent years, they’ve still got the better of the Panthers twice in a row. The last meeting was two seasons ago when New York narrowly won 19-16. Before then came a trio of wins for the Panthers, but those were during the golden era of Cam Newton at quarterback.
If Giants fans are grasping for positivity, consider that the club has never lost an international match. New York is a perfect 3-0 when they play overseas. Carolina has also never lost when competing on foreign soil, but they’ve only done it once. That was in 2019 when they defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
With regards to the good old information betters look for, it’s about as bad as it gets with these teams. The Giants are 2-7 outright, 2-6-1 versus the spread, and the over is 3-6 – the latter statistic at least suggests the under might be the smarter play. As for the Panthers, they’re even worse ATS at 2-7. The over is 7-2 by virtue of Carolina’s appalling defence (32.6 points conceded per game).
New York Giants
Read between the lines, pay close attention to some plays the Giants made in Week 9 at home to the Washington Commanders, and one can argue that it wasn’t all bad even if the team lost 27-22.
New York was, for once, competitive. Whenever Washington punched, New York made a decent attempt at punching back. For all the hoopla surrounding the Commanders’ offence, the Giants amassed more first downs (25 to 21). QB Daniel Jones didn’t light up the world with 174 total yards on 20 completions, but he found Theo Johnson and Chris Manhertz for touchdowns. Jones also had one of the boldest, smash-mouth 2-yard TD runs of the season in the fourth quarter as his side mounted a comeback.
But for every good thing that happens with the Giants – and there aren’t many these days – something bad is dragged along with it. New York punched it into the end zone twice in the final period but failed both of their two-point conversions.
For what it’s worth, they can hold their hat on a middle-of-the-pack defence that gives up 22.4 points per game (15th in the NFL).
WRs Darius Slayton and Bryce Ford-Wheaton are listed as questionable.
Carolina Panthers
No one was probably happier than QB Bryce Young last Sunday as the whistle blew to conclude a 23-22 Panthers win over the visiting New Orleans Saints.
This was about a young quarterback whose confidence was shot getting a measure of it back. No one ever wrote a doctorate-level dissertation about a 16-for-26, 171-yard day, but the fact is Young looked decent. His one interception genuinely was not his fault but rather an incredibly adept play by a Saints cornerback.
RB Chuba Hubbard wasn’t necessarily amazing, finishing with only 72 yards (although he averaged a decent 4.8 per tote), but he scored twice, including a brilliant 16-yarder with 2:18 remaining. Rookie wideout Ja’Tavion Sanders had his best game, corralling four passes for 87 yards.
If there was ever an opponent that Carolina could look forward to playing, the New York giants are a good candidate.
