Giants vs. Packers Point Spread: NFL Week 5 Odds, Prediction
The Giants and Packers are headed across the pond on Sunday as they prepare to meet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in north London. Keep in mind this will be an early 9:30 a.m. ET start time.
Green Bay is an 8-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, while the total sits at a conservative 41.5.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
This is the first regular-season meeting between these NFC rivals since Week 13 of the 2019 season. The Packers won that game 31-13 for their third straight victory in the all-time head-to-head series. Aaron Rodgers threw for 243 yards and four touchdowns for Green Bay. Daniel Jones, in his rookie season, led the Giants with 240 passing yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
The Giants are cruising with a 3-1 record this season in the surprisingly competitive NFC East division. They’re also a healthy 3-1 against the spread. New York has kept things low scoring, with the total going Under in three of four games.
After a season-opening loss in Minnesota, the Packers have rolled off three straight wins to tie the Vikings for top spot in the NFC North. They’re an even 2-2 ATS, splitting two home and two road games. Liken the Giants, Green Bay has kept things relatively low scoring with the total going Under in three of four games.
New York Giants
The big questioning surrounding the Giants in this game is health at the quarterback position. Starter Daniel Jones ran for two first half touchdowns in last week’s 20-12 win against the Bears, but he was eventually limited with an ankle injury, while backup Tyrod Taylor went down with a concussion. It’s thought that Jones will be good to go for Sunday, but regardless of who takes snaps under centre, New York’s game plan is likely to run the ball. Running back Saquon Barkley ran the ball 31 times for 146 yards last week and he’s currently the NFL’s rushing leader with 463 yards on 84 carries.
The defence will also need another big performance on Sunday. The Giants terrorized Chicago’s Justin Fields last week, sacking the quarterback six times. They also managed to recover three fumbles. Last week’s loss was costly, however, as 10 players went down with injury. In addition to Jones and Taylor, wide receiver Kenny Golladay suffered a knee injury, safety Julian Love is dealing with an undisclosed injury and offensive tackle Evan Neal picked up a neck injury. Golladay isn’t expected to play on Sunday, while Neal should be available. There’s been no update on Love’s status.
Green Bay Packers
Coming in as heavy favourites last week against New England, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers almost fell victim to a large upset before escaping with a 27-24 overtime victory. Rodgers had a tough first half, completing just four of 11 pass attempts for 44 yards as Green Bay trailed 10-7 at the break. The reigning MVP eventually settled in, throwing two second half touchdowns and finishing the game with 251 passing yards. Allen Lazard led the team with 116 receiving yards, while Aaron Jones led the way on the ground with 110 rushing yards.
One big concern for the Packers is turnovers problems. Green Bay turned the ball over three times last week, with Rodgers throwing an ugly pick-six to close out the first half. On the positive side, the team remains relatively healthy, although safety Adrian Amos left last week’s game in the first quarter with a head injury. There’s been no update on his status for Sunday.
