Giants vs. Eagles Point Spread: NFL Week 16 Odds, Prediction
Of the two teams involved, the Philadelphia Eagles’ needs are more pressing, especially after their stunning 20-17 loss to the Seahawks on Monday night. The Giants are fighting their way towards respectability, although that took a hit when the Saints marched over them 24-6.
The NFL odds anticipate that the Eagles will get out of their funk, as the hosts are currently pegged at -10.5.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Even though it’s Week 16, the Giants and Eagles have yet to tussle this season. The last time they drew swords was on the same field in January for a Divisional Round playoff game which Philly won with ease, 38-7. That was the Eagles’ fourth successive victory over the G-Men. Three of those four were by considerable margins (31, 26, and 24 points).
The Giants have crashed from the high of 2022 when they were a surprise playoff team and won a Wild Card match. At 5-9, the campaign is pretty much done and dusted, although there are some positives to take away. Young QB Tommy DeVito has earned himself a reputation by winning a few games under centre and has been more careful with the ball than regular starter Daniel Jones (threes INTs to six). Against the spread, the team is only 5-8-1 however and only two ATS results have differed from the straight-up final scores.
Philadelphia is still clearly the superior team as far as talent and depth are concerned, but things have been rough lately. They were bulldozed two weeks in a row against significant NFC rivals and on Monday fell to Seattle. Those results dropped their ATS record to 6-5-3, which is an impressive number of pushes, for that matter. Moreover, the club hasn’t covered a spread four weeks in a row.
New York Giants
The winning streak was fun, but it was going to come to an end sooner or later. After the high of beating the Packers at home in a Monday night thriller, the Giants were soundly beaten on the road by the Saints in Week 15, 24-6.
For all of New Orleans’ weaknesses and inconsistency, their defence is still quite good, and they didn’t allow New York to do anything last week. The Giants tallied 12 first downs and just under 200 yards of total offence, not to mention a risible 2-for-16 third down stats line. DeVito was also sacked seven times, although the Giants’ offensive line has been Swiss cheese all year.
Truthfully, no offensive numbers for anyone on New York’s roster stand out. It was just a bad day. Fans were still happy to see TE Darren Waller back in action after his injuries, although Darius Slayton was the main target (eight in total, four catches for 63 yards).
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles have found ways to lose in recent weeks. What looked like one of the best ensembles in the NFL (in a somewhat weak season) has been anything but for three games. On Monday they had a win in their sights versus Seattle yet fell spectacularly, 20-17.
Things started well. QB Jalen Hurts used his legs on the first drive to get the offence rolling and later would cash in from six yards out for a 7-0 lead. When a second-quarter field goal made it 10-0, knowing Drew Lock was the gunslinger on the other team, the night was promising. And yet, it was not meant to be. A Seahawks defence that had been battered around for weeks suddenly showed up, the Eagles struggled to contain Seattle’s run game, and keeping a clean pocket didn’t stop the Eagles’ air attack from only mustering 4.6 yards per pass. The 10-0 lead devolved into a 20-17 loss, courtesy of a stunning late-game TD on an average route on which Philly’s secondary simply got beat.
