NFL: Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles

The playoff-bound Philadelphia Eagles likely will rest their starters in the regular-season finale on Sunday when they host arguably the league’s worst team in the New York Giants.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Philadelphia is the NFC East champion and will be the conference’s No. 2 seed, so it’s expected that coach Nick Sirianni will sit his starters here to allow them to rest/heal ahead of hosting an opponent TBA on Wild-Card Weekend. Sirianni was on the hot seat entering the season but should be off it now. Unless the Eagles are blasted in their playoff opener. But I expect them to visit Detroit in this season’s NFC Championship Game.

The Giants will look very different next season, although apparently not at head coach or general manager. Back in October, team president and co-owner John Mara told reporters that Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen were safe for next year, but the team has somehow been even more embarrassing on the field since that proclamation so maybe things have changed. It’s all but a lock that New York will take a quarterback with a high pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft – likely Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders or Miami’s Cam Ward – unless they acquire one via trade or free agency (Kirk Cousins?).

The Eagles try for the season sweep as they blew out the Giants 28-3 in Week 7 back when Daniel Jones was still the New York QB – he has since been released. Former Giants running back and likely 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley torched his former team with 176 yards and a TD on 17 carries.

Philly is 7-3 SU in the past 10 meetings but 4-6 ATS.

New York Giants

The one thing Giants fans were enjoying this awful football season was the team was on the way to earning the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Alas, New York upset Indianapolis on Sunday, 45-33, to snap a franchise-record 10-game losing streak and fell out of that pole position. The Giants and a few other teams are tied for the league’s worst mark at 3-13, but New England now wins all tiebreakers to pick first.

QB Drew Lock had a career game Sunday for the Giants with five touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) while the team reached 30 points for the first time this season. The Giants had four touchdowns of at least 30 yards Sunday after just four total in the first 15 games this year. New York also avoided becoming the first team to finish winless at home since the 2017 Cleveland Browns. But honestly that was a bad win for the future of the franchise.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles blew out the visiting Cowboys 41-7 on Sunday to officially clinch the NFC East title and get locked into the NFC’s No. 2 overall seed, meaning there is no reason to play any starters this week. Pro Bowl quarterback Jalen Hurts missed the victory with a concussion as it was and backup Kenny Pickett was an efficient 10-for-15 for 143 yards and a TD. Pickett left in the second half with a rib injury, so we likely see third-stringer Tanner McKee in this one.

The big story, though, was the 167 yards on the ground from tailback and sure-fire Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley to join the rare 2,000 rushing yards in a season club. Barkley is just 101 yards away from breaking Eric Dickerson’s NFL single-season rushing record (2,105 yards in 1984). Does coach Nick Sirianni allow Barkley to play the full game if need be and risk injury? Or play at all? Does it matter that it’s against Barkley’s former Giants team?
