NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
In Week 5 last season, Dak Prescott went down with a season-ending broken ankle when the Giants and Cowboys squared off in a shootout in Dallas. The two teams combined for 71 points in a last-second Cowboys win. The win also contributed to a 7-1 stretch for Dallas when hosting the Giants.
Fast forward to today and Prescott’s Cowboys are rolling. Dallas is 3-1 to the over this season and are fourth in the NFL with 31.5 points per game. The total has gone over in all of Dallas’ last five home games which is another reason for the high total.
Head-to-head, the Giants have covered in only three of their last 10 matchups against Dallas.
New York Giants
The Giants ended their Week 4 win at New Orleans on a 17-0 run with Barkley scoring the game’s final two majors. Barkley had a season-high 126 yards on 18 touches while looking like the second-overall talent he was expected to be. He wasn’t the only Giants offensive player to break out either, as quarterback Daniel Jones exploded for 402 passing yards while completing 70 per cent of his passes. It was Jones’ first 300-yard passing game since Week 17 of 2019, and his first ever 400-yard game.
Jones did all this without receivers Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton, who both didn’t practise Wednesday. Offensive tackle Andrew Thomas also missed practice with a foot injury.
Dallas Cowboys
Prescott only threw for 188 yards on 22 attempts in Week 4, but efficiency was the name of the game as four of those 22 went for touchdowns to four different Cowboys. Carolina found out the hard way that Dallas has plenty of options on offence as Amari Cooper, Dalton Schultz, Cedrick Wilson, and Blake Jarwin all hauled in touchdown catches while Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 143 yards and a score. It was only Elliott’s third 100-yard rushing game since 2019.
On the other side of the ball, Trevon Diggs is putting the league on notice. Diggs has a league-high five interceptions — the second-year cornerback is approaching “avoid throwing to at all costs” territory.
