It’s a major surprise that the Kansas City Chiefs are last in the AFC West. With a win on Sunday they would climb back to the .500 mark.

It’s not exactly the marquee Monday night matchup of the season to conclude Week 8 as the 2-5 New York Giants visit the 3-4 Kansas City Chiefs, who are 10-point favourites on the NFL odds with a total of 52.0 points.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Everyone expected the New York Giants to be bad again this season and Coach Joe Judge might be out after Year 2. The Giants have an updated season win total of 5.5, with the under a -122 favourite. If New York goes under 5.5, Judge will not be back.

No coach has more job security in the NFL than Kansas City’s Andy Reid, and it’s a major surprise that the Chiefs are last in the AFC West as they were pre-season Super Bowl favourites yet again. Kansas City was given an over-under season win total of 12.5 with the added 17th game and already would be assured of finishing under that with a loss Monday. The Chiefs now have a win total of 9.5, with the over a -175 favourite. They are -200 to make the playoffs and +149 to miss.

The Giants are 11-3 all-time vs. the Chiefs and won the last meeting 12-9 in overtime at home in 2017. The starting QBs that day were now-retired Alex Smith of Kansas City and Eli Manning of New York. The favorite is 4-1 against the spread in the past five meetings.

New York Giants

The Giants had been blown out in back-to-back games and the heat really had intensified on Coach Joe Judge, but New York beat a spiraling Carolina Panthers team in Week 7, 25-3, despite playing without former Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley, three top receivers in Kenny Golladay, Sterling Shepard and rookie Kadarius Toney and offensive tackle Andrew Thomas. Too early to know if any of those guys will play in Week 8 (Thomas will not) but the extra day will help. A total of seven Week 1 starters were out. The defence was the story in allowing just 173 total yards and sacking Carolina QBs six times. Wouldn’t be shocking if the Giants were sellers ahead of the Nov. 2 trade deadline this week. New York is 20-6 ATS in its past 26 road games.

Kansas City Chiefs

So what is wrong with the Chiefs? There are numerous reasons, but two obvious ones are turnovers and the defence. Kansas City is last in the NFL with 17 turnovers (more than it had all of last season) and star QB Patrick Mahomes has had multiple turnovers in five games, including at least one interception in six straight. He left Sunday’s 27-3 loss at Tennessee after a big shot to the head but already has cleared concussion protocol and thus should be fine for Monday. Mahomes is no longer even in the MVP discussion. The thinking is that Mahomes may be trying to do too much because he knows his defence is going to give up a lot of points. The Chiefs are allowing 404.6 yards and 29.0 points per game. Kansas City’s defence has a league-low eight sacks. KC is 4-14 ATS in its past eight overall.
