The Washington Football Team are getting the next shot at the top dog as they travel to play the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers, who notched their 11th win of the season Wednesday afternoon over Baltimore.

The Steelers are the 18th team in NFL history to start the season with 11 consecutive wins, but one game ahead in the race for an AFC bye, with the 10-1 Kansas City Chiefs on their tail. As for Washington, they’re in the middle of a jammed NFC East — they’re tied for first, and a game out of last. Needless to say, Monday night’s clash is crucial for both sides.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

These historic franchises have met only five times in the 21st century and it’s been a complete sweep for the Steelers. In fact, over those five losses Washington scored a total of 44 points, half of which came in three losses at Pittsburgh.

With Washington three games under .500 after Week 12, they’re set as 9.5-point road underdogs. Washington’s 2-3 ATS on the road in 2020-21, meaning they’ve been road underdogs in all their away games. And road underdogs? 62-48 ATS this NFL season.

It’s an appealing trend, but the Steelers haven’t held back as they stand 8-3 ATS for the league’s top record there too.

Washington Football Team

If Washington has an objective advantage, it’s rest. The Football Team are coming off a 41-16 throttling of the Dallas Cowboys on American Thanksgiving. When Washington hits the field Monday, it’ll be their first game in 11 days.

The Football Team have won three of their last five too, and are coming in on a two-game win streak in which the allowed 25 total points. Washington’s defence ranks in the top five in opponents’ yards per game, red zone scoring percentage (first in the NFL), and opponents passing yards per game.

Washington’s also scoring 29.7 points per game over their last three, and have a top five receiver in Terry McLaurin (963 yards).

Pittsburgh Steelers

Eleven wins in eleven games speaks for itself, but there are concerns regarding how sloppy Pittsburgh’s 19-14 Wednesday win was. Perhaps it was the odd circumstances, since the Steelers have been lights out all year. They hold the NFL’s top point differential, and rank in the top six in yards on both sides of the ball. Pittsburgh’s first in points against with 17.1 per game.

Pittsburgh’s not flashy, but efficient. Only two offensive players have over 600 yards (excluding quarterback Ben Roethlisberger) because they beat teams by playing smart football — holding the NFL’s best turnover differential too. And when they need a play, they have a plethora of guys who can step up, such as James Washington and his third-down catch late in Week 12.
