The Panthers return from last weekend’s bye riding a four-game home losing streak. The Falcons look to rebound from last weekend’s 30-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but have claimed outright victories in four of their past five road contests.

Carolina is a 2.5-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 42.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Falcons have commanded 56 per cent of bets placed on this Week 14 matchup. That has helped them recover to 2.5-point road underdogs after fading to +3 early in the week. The OVER has attracted 62 per cent of bets this week. However, the total has dipped dramatically since opening at 45.5, tumbling to its current position at 42.5.

Sunday afternoon’s matchup at Bank of America Stadium marks the second and final regular season meeting between these NFC South rivals. The Panthers earned a 19-13 victory in Atlanta in Week 8. However, Atlanta has taken home the win in nine of 12 head-to-head clashes, both straight up and against the spread. The Falcons have also limited the Panthers to just 10 points per game while winning three straight in Carolina, and are 4-1 in five visits since 2015. The Panthers have averaged just 17.3 points per game during their stretch, and have seen the UNDER pay out in 12 of their past 16 head-to-head meetings.

Overall, the Panthers have won and covered just twice in their past nine, and have scored just 15.5 points per game over their past six. Atlanta has also struggled offensively, scoring 41 total points over their past four games, but have won outright in two of three as road underdogs.

Atlanta Falcons

Matt Ryan saw his recent struggles to find the end zone extended in last weekend’s loss to the Bucs. The 36-year-old pivot connected on 73.2 per cent of pass attempts, but managed to drive the Falcons into the Tampa Bay red zone on just one occasion before garbage time while completing just one pass. Overall, Ryan has tossed just one total scoring pass over his past four outings after throwing for 15 touchdowns over his first eight appearances. Things get no easier for Ryan this weekend against a Panthers passing defence that trails only Buffalo in passing yards allowed, and surrendered more than 200 passing yards just once in their past six outings.

Carolina Panthers

Despite getting benched in the fourth quarter of a 33-10 loss in Miami two weeks ago, quarterback Cam Newton is expected to start on Sunday. Newton failed to find the end zone in Miami while completing five of 21 pass attempts for 92 yards and two picks. Complicating matters for Newton and the Panthers is the absence of Christian McCaffrey, who saw his season ended by ankle injury during the first half of the loss to the Dolphins. That puts rusher Chuba Hubbard in line for more touches this week after being used sparingly over his past three outings. Hubbard ran for 82 yards and one score in the Panthers’ Week 8 win in Atlanta, and was also successfully used as a short pass threat earlier in the season.
