The New York Jets will be missing star quarterback Zach Wilson on Monday, when they play host to the Atlanta Falcons in NFL preseason Week 2 action. Wilson is reportedly sidelined for the remainder of the preseason after suffering a knee injury in last week’s 24-21 win in Philadelphia. The Falcons travel to the Big Apple after opening their August schedule last weekend with a 27-23 win in Detroit.

With Wilson on the shelf, the Jets have held steady since opening as 1-point home underdogs. However, New York has attracted 77% of the betting action. The Falcons have emerged as -132 moneyline favourites. The total has held steady since opening at 39.5, with the UNDER drawing support from 83% of sports bettors.

Pre-Season Week 2 Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Monday night’s matchup at MetLife Stadium marks the first preseason meeting between these squads since 2019. The Jets have dominated in head-to-head August action, winning and covering decisively in each of their past four dates with Atlanta, while holding the Falcons to 16 or fewer points on three occasions over that stretch. Overall, the Jets have been a steady bet in recent preseason action, avoiding defeat in all but one of their past seven August dates, while covering five times over that stretch. Conversely, last week’s win over the Eagles snapped a three-game slide for Atlanta in preseason contests, and marked just their second August victory since 2016. With the Falcons struggling to generate offence, the UNDER has prevailed in each of the past two preseason contests involving these teams.

Atlanta Falcons

Falcons fans caught a glimpse of what life will be like in a post-Matt Ryan world in last week’s preseason opener, and largely liked what they saw. After navigating the Falcons to the end zone in the team’s first possession, Marcus Mariota handed the ball over to rookie Desmond Ritter, who didn’t disappoint, tossing for two scores, and rushing for a game-high 59 yards.  Mariota is still expected to get the start in Monday’s contest, but a strong performance by Ritter in joint practices on Friday and Saturday against a New York rush defence that was among one of the worst in the NFL last season could earn him some additional snaps on game night. The status of Drake London remains uncertain after the talented rookie receiver tweaked his knee in last week’s contest.

New York Jets

The loss of Zach Wilson is a blow to a Jets squad looking to improve on last season’s dismal 4-13 record. With Wilson on the shelf, look for Mike White to enjoy an increased workload on Monday night. White shone at times while seeing limited action last season, highlighted by a sensational 405-yard, three-touchdown performance in the team’s 34-31 win over Cincinnati. The 27-year-old is expected to share duties with Joe Flacco. However, Flacco received mixed reviews for his performance at practice this week, raising questions as to who will ultimately seize the backup role.
