There is going to be a lot of change in Atlanta this offseason as the team needs a new general manager and head coach. Team president Rich McKay said that if the new hires believe the best way forward is to trade franchise icons in quarterback Matt Ryan and receiver Julio Jones, well, that’s what the Falcons would do

NFL Week 17 Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Tampa Bay doesn’t have much motivation to go all-out here and could prefer to rest a key guy or two ahead of the playoffs. I’d be shocked if Tom Brady plays the entire game.

Incidentally, this will be the last NFL game at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium this season (in theory with a ton of upsets the Bucs could still host a playoff game) until Super Bowl 55, which is February 7.

Atlanta is 6-4 in the past 10 meetings, but the teams have split those against the spread. In Week 15, the Bucs were 6-point road favorites and trailed 17-0 at the half and 24-7 early in the third quarter but rallied for a 31-27 victory. Both Brady and Ryan had big days.

Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta lost its fourth in a row on Sunday, 17-14, and it was in particularly cruel fashion. Kicker Younghoe Koo is having a fantastic season and was named a Pro Bowler but missed the tying 39-yard field goal in the final seconds. It was only his second missed field goal in 37 attempts this year and was Atlanta’s seventh loss in a one-possession game in 2020.

The seven-time Pro Bowl receiver Jones (hamstring) missed his third straight game, and six-time Pro Bowl centre Alex Mack (concussion) was inactive. Really no reason for them to play here. In fact, losing could get Atlanta the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Right now, the team would pick fourth. The Falcons are 8-3 ATS in their past 11 road games.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

I’m not sure how much motivation the Bucs will have here as they have clinched a Wild-Card spot but can’t go any higher. They sit as the No. 5 overall seed and would stay there with a victory. That seed would mean a very advantageous matchup on Wild-Card weekend against a below-.500 NFC East champion. The Bucs also could earn the No. 5 even with a loss if the Rams lose to Arizona.

Tampa Bay enters on a three-game winning streak and blew out the Lions 47-7 on Saturday in Detroit. Brady completed 22 of 27 passes for 348 yards and four touchdowns in the first half as the Buccaneers took a 34-0 lead. He didn’t even need to play the second half. The Bucs, who ended a 13-year playoff drought with the win, had a franchise-record six TD passes overall. Top running back Ronald Jones missed his second in a row following finger surgery. Seems doubtful he’d play here. The Bucs are 3-7 ATS in their past 10 vs. the NFC South.
