NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

I’m surprised this huge matchup wasn’t flexed into the Monday Night Week 13 spot in place of Cleveland-Denver, but surely CBS put up a fight about losing the marquee Eagles-Ravens matchup in the late-afternoon Sunday window. These will both be playoff teams without question, and we certainly could see a rematch in New Orleans in mid-February.

Baltimore (8-4) is a half-game behind Pittsburgh (8-3) in the AFC North, but the Ravens are the -210 division favourites and +300 second-favourites behind Kansas City (+200) to win the conference title. I still like the Ravens to come out of the AFC as long as they at least catch the Steelers for the division title, which I think they will, because it’s so hard for a wild-card team to win three straight road games to get to the Super Bowl.

No team has repeated as NFC East champion since Philadelphia in 2004, the NFL’s longest such divisional drought, and that will continue this year as the Eagles (9-2) will take the East for the first time since 2022. They have a three-game lead in the loss column over second-place Washington and are -20000 for the division and +300 second-favourites behind Detroit (my preseason pick) to win the NFC.

There have been just six matchups between these franchises in the regular season, with Baltimore leading 3-2-1 and winner of the past two (last in 2020).

Philadelphia Eagles

Since coming out of their Week 5 bye at 2-2, the Eagles have been the NFL’s best team at 7-0 following Sunday’s very impressive 37-20 win at the Los Angeles Rams. Philly’s Saquon Barkley had one of the greatest games for a running back in NFL history with 26 carries for 255 yards and two scores and even caught four passes for 47 yards. He now leads the league with 1,392 yards rushing and is the -275 favourite for Offensive Rookie of the Year and +475 third-favourite for MVP – which running backs so rarely win these days. Barkley is on pace for 2,151 rush yards and 2,548 scrimmage yards, both of which would be NFL records. The Eagles have become the first team to outgain its opponents by at least 100 yards in seven straight games since the 1993 Steelers. Pro Bowl wideout DeVonta Smith missed Sunday’s win with a hamstring injury and the team lost pass-rusher Brandon Graham to a season-ending injury and cornerback Darius Slay to a concussion. Graham, a 15-year veteran, has appeared in a franchise-record 206 regular-season games. The Eagles are 5-1 SU in their past six road games.

Baltimore Ravens

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson improved to 18-4 after a loss career and 20-5 in primetime games in leading Monday night’s 30-23 win at the Chargers. Jackson (+250 to win his third career MVP) threw for two scores and rushed for another and now leads the NFL in passing yards. If Eagles running back Saquon Barkley doesn’t win Offensive Player of the Year, then Ravens tailback Derrick Henry (+275) will for the second time in his career. While he didn’t score a TD on Monday for the first time this season, he rushed for 140 yards and is second to Barkley in the league in that category by just 67 yards. Baltimore gashed the NFL’s top scoring defence for 212 yards rushing, the most ever given up by a Jim Harbaugh-coached team in the NFL. The Ravens were without arguably their most important defensive player in Pro Bowl linebacker Roquan Smith, but he was able to warm up before being ruled out, so there’s a solid chance Smith returns Sunday. The Ravens are 7-1 SU in their past eight against NFC East teams.
