Week 4 of the NFL season kicks off with a bang as two legitimate Super Bowl contenders meet with the Philadelphia Eagles visiting the Green Bay Packers, who are 4.5-point favourites at Sports Interaction.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The first three Thursday night games this year were intra-divisional matchups and, frankly, duds. That includes Green Bay visiting Chicago in the Kickoff Game and prevailing 10-3, setting offensive football back a few years. This will mark the first time in Packers history that they face the Eagles on a Thursday night as well as first time they have two Thursday night games in September. It’s only the third prime-time game ever for Philadelphia at Lambeau Field.

Including playoffs, the Packers have won five of the past six in the series, but they haven’t played since a Monday night in Week 12 of the 2016 season at Lincoln Financial Field. Current Eagles star quarterback Carson Wentz was still an inconsistent rookie then and struggled in a 27-13 loss. Aaron Rodgers threw for 313 yards and two scores, both to Davante Adams.

These teams could win their respective divisions and meet in the NFC playoffs. Green Bay is the favourite in the Central, but Philadelphia is two games behind rolling Dallas in the East.

The Packers are 5-1 ATS in the past six meetings. The total has gone under in seven of the previous eight.

Philadelphia Eagles

At least we think the Eagles are Super Bowl contenders. They haven’t looked great in the early going. Philly was arguably the biggest upset victim in Week 3, losing 27-24 at home to Detroit. The Eagles outgained the Lions by nearly 100 yards but turned it over twice and didn’t have any takeaways. Wentz threw for 259 yards and two scores. He was missing his two top receivers in the injured DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery. Jackson for sure won’t play here. Offensive tackle Andre Dillard (knee) and cornerback Ronald Darby (hamstring) left Sunday’s loss with injuries. Philadelphia has failed to cover its past six September games.

Green Bay Packers

Been a great start for first-year coach Matt LaFleur as Green Bay improved to 3-0 with Sunday’s 27-16 win over Denver. Rodgers threw for 235 yards and a score, and Aaron Jones tied a career high with two touchdowns rushing. The Packers haven’t been great offensively yet, but their defence has been tremendous. That unit forced three Broncos turnovers. Free-agent additions Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith have been off the charts good. They have combined for 7.5 sacks. Last year, the Packers had two games all season with three-plus takeaways. They already have two in 2019. Green Bay is 4-0-1 ATS in its past five on Thursday.
