Both clubs are coming off road victories last weekend, with Philadelphia scoring a season-low 23 points in a nine-point win at L.A. and New York winning 31-21 at Denver.
The Eagles are one of two unbeaten teams (San Francisco being the other) remaining and aren’t showing any signs of slowing down after last season’s Super Bowl appearance. But the Jets are looking to build off a win that snapped a three-game losing streak, and are getting more out of their Aaron Rodgers-less offence in the process.
Kickoff at MetLife Stadium starts at 4:25 p.m. EDT with the Eagles nearly a touchdown favourite on the road and the over-under listed at 42.5 on the NFL odds.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Eagles hold a 10-game win streak over the Jets, including wins in all six of their last six trips to New York. Philadelphia is also 6-0 ATS in their last six games against the Jets. The Eagles are 3-0 ATS on the road this season too while allowing 15 points per game away from home.
With a win and cover last weekend, the Jets improved to 7-1 ATS in their last eight October games. But New York’s managed to cover in only in one of their last five tilts against NFC opponents. The over is 7-1 in Philadelphia’s last eight meetings with and AFC opponent. The Eagles are fifth in the NFL with 28.2 points per game too.
Philadelphia Eagles
It’s always been pick your poison with the Eagles offence. They lead the NFL with 35.8 rushing attempts per game this season, but quarterback Jalen Hurts is now coming off back-to-back 300-yard games with the likes of pass-catchers A.J. Brown, Dallas Goedert, and DeVonta Smith all having massive outings when their number’s called. Brown’s clearly the number one option though with 541 receiving yards, now ranking fourth in the NFL.
And in a case of the rich get richer, 2023 first-round pick Jalen Carter is playing like a first-overall kind of draft pick. Carter became the second player in NFL history to record 25 pressures, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumble in the first five games of a season. The other player to do so is Aaron Donald, so pretty good company for number 98 in green and black.
New York Jets
At 2-3, the Jets still have hope in the AFC but if they’re to try and sneak into the post-season, potentially with Aaron Rodgers speedily recovering from his Achilles injury, these are the types of games New York must compete in — if not win.
New York’s offence is now seemingly going through phenom running back Breece Hall, who is now getting back to 20-plus touches and producing dynamic results such as a 72-yard touchdown last weekend. Hall now has 382 yards on 54 carries this season, which is 7.2 yards per rush.
On defence the Jets are generating takeaways, something they must with the offence still not fully clicking. New York recovered three fumbles last weekend and now have nine takeaways on the season to rank sixth in the NFL.
