Eagles vs. Jaguars Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 2 Odds, Prediction

The Jaguars made their biggest free agent splash of the off-season when they signed 2018 Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles to a four-year 88 million dollar deal. Foles will see action in this game versus the Eagles, but not to a large extent.

Both the Eagles and Jaguars suffered convincing setbacks in week one of the preseason. Here in week two the easy story line is former Eagles Quarterback Nick Foles facing the team he helped win their first Super Bowl. Don’t dig too deep though, Foles is expected to play a couple sets of downs, at most.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Although it is only a preseason game, you will see a different looking Jaguars team in week two of the preseason, literally. In week one, the Jags elected to sit out 30 players for their trip to Baltimore (29-0 loss); most of those players will be in uniform this Thursday night.

Interesting note about this game, and it goes hand and hand with the traditional preseason game. The Jags are 5-0 to the under in their last five home games, while the Eagles are 5-2 to the under in their last seven road games.

These two teams met during the regular season last year where the Eagles scored a 24-17 win over the Jaguars. Carson Wentz was 21-of-30 for 286 yards.

Philadelphia Eagles

The new storyline in Eagles camp since week one of the preseason is who will now back-up starter Carson Wentz. Entering camp, Nate Sudfield was the favourite to claim that position. However, after breaking a bone in his left wrist, he is expected to miss six weeks of the season.

Unless the Eagles sign a veteran pivot soon, it seems Head Coach Doug Peterson is convinced that Cody Kessler and Clayton Thorson will be able to hold down the secondary position while Sudfield makes a recovery. Last year the pair combined for 5-of-15 for 19 yards in limited duty. Both quarterbacks will see a significant increase to their workload this week in Jacksonville.

Speaking of work load, starter Carson Wentz will see action with the first team offence, although he is not expected to last more than part of the first quarter. Receiver Alshon Jeffrey is also expected to make his preseason debut. Reports out of Philadelphia say he’s had a great camp, and has been the best receiver on the field.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars made their biggest free agent splash of the off-season when they signed 2018 Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles to a four-year 88 million dollar deal. Foles will see action in this game versus the Eagles, but not to a large extent. The best guess is the first team offence will see the first series of downs and then call it a night. Foles will be joined by Running back Leonard Fournette, who is also expected to make his preseason debut after missing the game in week one.

The competition continues behind Foles as stated by Head Coach Doug Marrone to the media, “we have to figure out who is the number two Quarterback and keep playing him.” It’s hard to say who that Quarterback will be, but Gardner Minshew didn’t exactly take advantage of that situation last week versus the Ravens. Minshew went 7-of-14 for 46 yards and wasn’t able to lead the offence over mid-field. Alex McGough and Tanner Lee are very much in the mix.
