The Philadelphia Eagles clinched an NFC East title with a 43-35 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 14. Their Super Bowl hopes took a significant hit, though, after franchise quarterback Carson Wentz tore his ACL. It’s a significant blow for Philadelphia but it might not matter this week as they face the calamitous New York Giants.

Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Philadelphia has been the most profitable team in the NFL to bet on this season with an 11-2 record straight up and a 10-3 record against the spread. A lot of their trends can be thrown out, though, as Wentz is now out. As for the Giants, they are 2-11 straight up but 5-8 against the spread. The Giants aren’t often a home dog of 7.5-10 points but are 1-0 SU and ATS in that role this season and are 5-2 ATS in their last seven in that spot.

Philadelphia Eagles

Wentz was in the MVP conversation this season after throwing for 3,296 yards and 33 touchdowns with just seven interceptions, leading the Eagles to the best record in the NFC. Backup Nick Foles completed 6-of-10 pass attempts for 42 yards while helping the Eagles to a comeback win over Los Angeles. There is enough talent around Foles to think that Philadelphia can still make a run if they clinch the top seed in the NFC. They can move one step closer to locking in a bye and home field advantage for the playoffs with a win this weekend.

Look for the Eagles to lean on their defense in this one as they are first in rush defense and ninth in sacks. The Giants rank 28^th in rushing offense and ranks 31^st in points scored (15.3 PPG). The Eagles should be able to keep the Giants in check. All they’ll need from Foles is to avoid mistakes.

New York Giants

The Giants have actually overachieved against the spread in comparison to their overall record this season. However, they will be in tough to cover an eight-point spread against Philadelphia. Eli Manning returned as New York’s starting quarterback in Week 14, throwing for 228 yards and a touchdown with an interception. The Giants have nothing left to play for but pride even that’s a question as they’ve fired their head coach and made several roster changes. Running back Wayne Gallman appears to be getting a significant look after leading New York with 12 carries for 59 yards versus Dallas.

The Giants defense has been decent over the last month, holding down the Kansas City Chiefs and keeping the Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys under wraps until late in the game. If the defense can cut off the run, keep this low scoring and force this game on the shoulders of Nick Foles, they might have a chance to spring the upset.
