Eagles vs. Giants Point Spread: NFL Week 6 Odds, Prediction

This one goes under the heading that every team plays once on a Thursday because the New York Football Giants are not a prime-time worthy bunch. They were a bad team last year, especially on offence, and don’t appear much better in 2018. But, the Giants are from the USA’s biggest media market so they will always get a few prime-time games per season (next Monday, for example). They do have two electric offensive players in rookie running back Saquon Barkley and receiver Odell Beckham Jr., but if you don’t have a good quarterback then nothing else matters.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Philadelphia has had a bit of a Super Bowl hangover. This is a fairly common occurrence as it takes defending champions a while to get going – plus, they now have a bull’s-eye on their back.

The Eagles have won three straight in this series but all were close. Philly won 27-24 last year at home on a team-record 61-yard field goal from Jake Elliott as time expired. In New Jersey, the Eagles prevailed 34-29 behind four touchdown passes from Nick Foles – that was his first start post-Carson Wentz ACL injury.

Philadelphia is 6-4 ATS in the past 10 meetings overall despite failing to cover both in 2017.

Philadelphia Eagles

As noted, the Eagles haven’t looked like reigning Super Bowl champions yet at 2-3 – matching their loss total from all of last season. They lost a rematch of the NFC title game on Sunday at home to the Minnesota Vikings, 23-21. Wentz looked pretty good, throwing for 311 yards and two scores. Zach Ertz caught 10 of those passes for 110 yards and a TD. The Eagles still haven’t reached the 24-point barrier yet after they scored 24-plus points in 12 games last season, tied for the most in the NFL.

It should be noted that offensive coordinator Frank Reich and quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo were both hired away in the offseason. Philly was without running back Darren Sproles Sunday for a fourth straight game due to injury, and defensive end Derek Barnett sat with a shoulder injury. Not likely either plays Thursday.

New York Giants

The Giants did score a season-high 31 points on Sunday but lost in Carolina on a last-second 63-yard field goal to drop to 1-4. Eli Manning threw for 326 yards and two scores but was picked off twice. Beckham, who seemed to throw Manning under the bus for the offence’s issues in an interview last week, had eight catches for 131 yards and his first TD of the year.

Barkley continued his fine rookie season by rushing for 48 yards and catching four balls for 81 yards and two scores. It was the first time the Giants scored at least 30 points since Tom Coughlin’s final game as head coach in Week 17 of the 2015 season (against the Eagles).
