It’s loser goes home in a Week 16 divisional bout between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. These stakes were somewhat predictable prior to the 2020–21 season kicking off, it’s both teams combining for nine wins through 15 weeks that has come out of left field.

Then again this meeting wasn’t supposed to be Jalen Hurts versus Andy Dalton at quarterback, but here we are. The Cowboys can do as good as 7-9, and the Eagles can max out at 6-9-1 yet both have a reasonable chance at hosting a playoff game with some help.

NFL Week 16 Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Funny enough, both clubs should be entering Sunday’s tilt with high spirits. Since Hurts took over for Carson Wentz two weeks ago, the Eagles offence has been rejuvenated. Then the Cowboys have quietly kept their season alive — or worsened their draft selection, whichever way you want to look at it — with back-to-back wins.

The Eagles enter as road favourites, getting 1.5 points from oddsmakers with the total set at 49.5. Philadelphia’s failed to cover in their last five road games, but the Cowboys are 2-5 ATS at home this season. There’s no real side to lean toward as both have upped their level of play as of late, but it should be of note that five of Dallas’ seven home games have gone over in 2020.

Philadelphia Eagles

The hype around Hurts in Philadelphia is increasing after a strong encore to his first NFL start. Last week at Arizona saw him pass for 338 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions in a losing effort. The 2020 second-round pick has looked incredible thus far, but Philadelphia’s protection issue persists.

Hurts was sacked six times, contributing to their league-most 59 allowed on the year. It factored into Hurts scrambling for 63 yards too, after rushing for 106 in his NFL debut.

With the offence finding its feet, Philadelphia’s defence now needs to step up. The Eagles have surrendered 6.9 yards per play over their last three games, ranking 31st in the NFL.

Dallas Cowboys

You’d have to go back to Week 2 against Atlanta to find the last time Dallas dropped 40 points. The Cowboys’ 41-33 win over San Francisco last Sunday was their third in their last five games.

Over Dallas’ current two-game win streak, one statistic proves key: the turnover battle. Dallas has recorded fewer yards than their opponents during their last two games, including 458 allowed last week, but have recorded seven takeaways and haven’t turned the ball over once.

The emergence of running back Tony Pollard played a big role in Week 15 too, as he gained 132 yards and two scores on 18 touches against the 49ers.
