Eagles vs. Commanders Point Spread: NFL Week 8 Odds, Prediction

The big question is which Washington team will show up: the team that took Philadelphia to overtime this season and handed the Eagles their first loss 10 weeks into last season, or the Commanders team that scored seven points last weekend and lost by 20 to Chicago in their last showing on home field.

The 6-1 Eagles have proven that their only loss this season was a blip on the radar. Philadelphia bounced back in primetime last weekend when they dominated Miami in a two-score win.

Kickoff this Sunday at FedEx Field begins at 1 p.m. EDT with the Eagles -6.5 on the spread and -300 to win as a road favourite. The over-under is at 43.5 on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Commanders have failed to take advantage of home field this season, going 1-2 outright and 0-3 ATS in their three home contests this season. Philadelphia’s 3-1 ATS on the road this year and 10-2 straight up in their last 12 road games overall. The Eagles have left Washington with a win in five of their last six visits.

Seven of Washington’s last eight home games have finished under the total, but the Commanders are now the fourth-worst team in points allowed (27.1 points per game) and are welcoming in the fourth-best scoring team in Philadelphia (26.6 points per game). Five of Philly’s last seven divisional contests have finished over the total.

Philadelphia Eagles

A mysterious knee injury to quarterback Jalen Hurts is the headline story in Eagles world this week, but the star pivot appears to be fine as his play showed last weekend. Hurts through on a leg brace in the second half of Philadelphia’s 31-17 victory over Miami but still managed to accumulate 300 total yards of offence and three scores. A.J. Brown was yet again the feature target, hauling in 10 catches for 137 yards and a touchdown. Brown is one of two NFL receivers (Tyreek Hill) with over 800 receiving yards on the season.

Hurts didn’t even appear on the Eagles small injury report Wednesday. The only three players who did were Reed Blankenship, Milton Williams, and Bradley Roby with the latter the only DNP of the day.

Washington Commanders

A seven-point afternoon in which you go one for 15 on third down is about as ugly as it gets for the Commanders offence. Six sacks disrupted any sustainability Sam Howell and his offence could get, as Howell finished the day with 249 passing yards and no touchdowns. Howell was coming off a season-high three touchdown passes the week prior.

When the Commanders met Philadelphia back in Week 4 it was right there for the taking because of the offensive production too. Washington jumped out to a 17-7 lead, tied up the game with a 10-yard touchdown on the final play of regulation, but didn’t take the gamble via a two-point convert to win or lose and fell in overtime. Now at 3-4 on the season, Washington needs head coach Ron Rivera to reclaim that “riverboat gambler” title in a huge divisional bout.
