Eagles vs. Browns Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 2 Odds, Prediction
After opening their August schedule with last week’s decisive 24-13 win in Jacksonville, the Browns return to face Philadelphia as 2-point underdogs on the NFL odds. The Eagles arrive in Cleveland perched as -134 moneyline favourites, and the total has held steady at 37.0. However, the OVER has enjoyed strong early support from sports bettors.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Sunday afternoon’s matchup at FirstEnergy Stadium marks the first preseason meeting between these teams since 2018. The Browns escaped with a 5-0 victory in that contest, snapping a three-game slide versus Philadelphia in August clashes. That win also extended a trend towards low scoring that has fuelled a 4-0-0 run for the UNDER in totals betting when these teams face off in the preseason, and a 7-0-1 run for the UNDER in eight preseason and regular season tilts since 2006.
Overall, the Browns have impressed in preseason play in recent years, going 14-2-0 straight up and 13-3-0 against the spread since 2016. Conversely, Philadelphia has been a consistent disappointment when playing in August. With last week’s 24-21 loss to the New York Jets, the Eagles now sport a dismal 2-10-1 record over their past 13 preseason games, covering just three times over that stretch.
Philadelphia Eagles
Eagles fans were given reason to be optimistic in the team’s preseason opener against New York. Quarterback Jalen Hurts started the contest and wasted no time making his mark in limited action, connecting on all six of his pass attempts including the opening score of the game. However, Philadelphia was unable to protect their early 14-0 lead, compiling zero total yards over their first four possessions after halftime, allowing the Jets to storm back for the win.
While Eagles regulars are expected to increasingly see action, the squad may be without Miles Sanders on Sunday. The star receiver caught a pair of passes last week, but a hamstring injury has forced him out of practice this week, leaving his game status uncertain.
Cleveland Browns
While the Eagles let an early lead slip away in their August opener, the Browns romped to an impressive comeback in last week’s win over the Jaguars. With controversial pivot Deshaun Watson struggling in his appearance with the Browns, compiling just seven yards on 1-for-5 passing, the Jaguars seized the early lead. Watson’s struggles are not entirely surprising considering he had not seen action for 19 months. While the embattled star could benefit from further work, his availability remains in doubt. Watson is currently facing a lengthy suspension stemming from his ongoing legal woes, a ruling on which is expected some time this week.
If Watson is unable to go, look for journeyman Jacoby Brissett to rise to the top of the depth chart. Brissett didn’t see action last week, but will have plenty of opportunity to get a look at the Eagles defence during joint practices on Thursday and Friday. Whoever is under centre will have to make do without starting centre Nick Harris, who suffered a season-ending injury in last week’s opener.
