Eagles vs. Bengals Point Spread: NFL Week 8 Odds, Prediction

The Bengals need a win much more and are 3-point favourites on the NFL odds with a total of 47.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Both Philadelphia and Cincinnati are recent Super Bowl losers with the Eagles falling to Kansas City in the big game following the 2022 season and the Bengals losing to the Los Angeles Rams following the 2021 campaign.

In the past five NFL seasons, that ’21 Cincinnati club is the only team to win the AFC other than Kansas City, which has taken it the other four years and is the current +150 favourite. Cincinnati is +1500 to win the AFC but needs to simply worry about making the postseason first with a 3-4 record. This game could be vital because the Bengals should win Week 9 vs. visiting Las Vegas and could thus get over .500. I don’t believe Cincinnati gets a playoff spot with a loss here. It is -110 to get in.

Philadelphia (4-2) is a half-game back of surprise NFC East leader Washington, but the Eagles remain the +110 favourites, and I think they win the division for the second time in three years barring major injury. The Commanders probably are overachieving a bit, while Dallas is simply a bad team right now.

It’s the 15th all-time matchup between these franchises in the regular season with the Bengals leading 9-3-2. Two of the past four have ended in ties – including their last matchup in 2020 when it finished 23-23 in Philly.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles looked a bit broken entering their Week 5 bye but have looked much better out of it – thanks to some healthy guys back – at 2-0 following a 28-3 win at the New York Giants on Sunday. Philly running back Saquon Barkley torched his former club with 176 yards and a TD on the ground. That yardage total was the second-most by a player against his former team in NFL history, and Barkley now has the most rushing yards (658) in the first six games of a season in Eagles history. Jalen Hurts threw for a score and rushed for two. It was his sixth career game with at least one passing and two rushing scores, tied for second-most in league history.

However, the Eagles failed to score in the first quarter again and haven’t yet in 2024. It is the first NFL team with zero points in the first quarter through the first six games of a season since the 2008 Detroit Lions, who finished 0-16. Right guard Mekhi Becton sustained a concussion in the first half Sunday and didn’t return. Top tight end Dallas Goedert missed it with a hamstring injury and is day-to-day. The Eagles are 3-10 ATS in their past 13 games.

Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati has won three of four since a 0-3 start following a fairly routine 21-14 victory at a bad Cleveland team on Sunday with the Browns losing starting QB Deshaun Watson to a season-ending injury early on in the game. Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow had a TD pass to both Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase. Charlie Jones had a 100-yard kick-return TD for only the second opening kickoff return in franchise history. It was the longest kickoff return in the NFL this season and the third kick returned for a touchdown.

The Bengals had lost six straight games in Cleveland. They have now allowed 21 combined points in the past two games after surrendering an average of 29.0 PPG in the first five this year. Monitor the status of Bengals left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. as he exited Sunday’s game early in the second quarter with a right knee injury. Cody Ford replaced him and helped hold reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett without a sack. Cincinnati is 11-1 SU in its past 12 vs. NFC teams.
