Dolphins vs. Texans Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 2 Odds, Prediction
The Miami Dolphins scored just three points in their preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons and will be looking to show better in Week 2. They’ll now prepare for the Houston Texans, who took down the New England Patriots in Week 1. The Texans have a pretty good rotation at quarterback with last year’s starter Davis Mills getting ample preseason work. Does that give Houston an edge over Miami in this exhibition?
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Mike McDaniel is in his second year with the Dolphins and his teams are now 2-2 in preseason contests. We’ll have to see if he pushes his team a little bit more in Week 2.
Meanwhile, the Texans have a first-time head coach in DeMeco Ryans. He led the team to a win in his first preseason outing but that’s all the intel we have on him.
Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins know what they have on offence and likely won’t play their starters all that much again. Remember, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has a history of concussions, so it might not make a lot of sense to risk him in a preseason game. The same probably goes for star wideouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Instead, Miami will send out their youngsters and attempt to iron out the remaining depth chart behind them.
Skylar Thompson got action under centre last week but had thrown just 104 yards and two interceptions while being sacked four times. Thompson and the rest of the Dolphins offence managed just three points the whole night. Mike White played last week too but was a disappointment. Many felt that the Dolphins might be a good bet as both White and Thompson have started regular season games. Instead, neither delivered a touchdown and both threw picks.
The running back rotation with guys like Myles Gaskin, rookie De’Von Achane and others should be reliable too. The issue is they didn’t play well last week and it’s unclear whether the offence will do any better this week against a motivated Texans squad.
Houston Texans
Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud had a rough start to his NFL career last week. He got the nod in the preseason opener but didn’t exactly perform like they thought he would. He threw an interception and completed just two out of his four total passes for 13 yards before getting pulled.
In the meantime, his two backups stepped into the game and both delivered scoring drives to help them beat the New England Patriots. Davis Mills and veteran Case Keenum showcased their NFL experience. Both of them fed the young wideout Tank Dell in the process, with him coming down with five catches for 65 yards and a touchdown.
This is a really solid quarterback rotation and the Texans seem to care about these games. That’s why we see them as a favourite in this spot. They’re likely the right bet too.
