The Ravens have tallied four straight home victories over Miami, and will be aiming to build on last weekend’s 24-9 rout of the New York Jets in Sunday’s home opener. The Dolphins carried over their impressive stretch from last season with a 20-7 victory over the rival New England Patriots to improve to 9-1-0 in their past 10 regular season contests.

The Ravens have faded slightly since opening as 4-point favourites on the NFL odds, dipping to -3.5 while garnering the support of just 41 per cent of sports bettors. The total has also been on the decline since opening at 46, tumbling to 44.5. However, the OVER continues to command a narrow 52 per cent majority of the betting action.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Sunday afternoon’s matchup at M&T Bank Stadium marks the second meeting between these teams in as many seasons, and their first clash in Baltimore since 2017. The Dolphins romped to a 22-10 home victory over an injury-ravaged Ravens squad in Week 10 of last season, snapping a three-game straight up slide in head-to-head action. Miami also covered as 8.5-point underdogs in that contest, halting a nine-game winless run against the spread. Recent dates between these teams have tended to be one-sided affairs, with the winner claiming victory by an average margin of 33.3 points over their past four clashes. Accordingly, the OVER has paid out in three of their past four meetings.

For the Ravens, last week’s victory over the Jets marks a big turnaround after the team closed out 2021 with six straight losses. Conversely, the Dolphins’ win over New England extends an impressive 9-1-0 run that comes on the heels of a seven-game slide. However, Miami has earned the win in just two of its past seven road contests.

Miami Dolphins

Last week’s win over the Patriots featured a pair of key debuts for the Dolphins. In addition to marking the NFL coaching debut of newly minted bench boss Mike McDaniel, Week 1 also gave Dolphins fans a chance to welcome Tyreek Hill. The veteran receiver did not disappoint, connecting with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for a game-high 94 yards.

More important for the Dolphins was the continued strong play of the defence. In addition to allowing the Patriots to drive into the red zone on just one occasion, the Dolphins D tallied one interception and forced a fumble that Melvin Ingram returned for the game-winning touchdown.

Baltimore Ravens

The importance of Lamar Jackson to the Baltimore Ravens became evident when the star quarterback suffered a season-ending injury that coincided with the team’s stretch-run freefall. It was clear again last weekend, as Jackson led the Ravens to an impressive 24-9 victory over the New York Jets on a rain-soaked gridiron at MetLife Stadium. Despite the inclement conditions, Jackson connected on three scoring passes including two tosses to Devin Duvernay.

Injuries remained a concern for Baltimore as the season kicked off, with rusher JK Dobbins, cornerback Marcus Peters, and tackle Ronnie Stanley all opening the season on the shelf. Dobbins’ return to practice as a full participant is a hopeful sign that he is close to a long awaited return. However, both Peters and Stanley remained limited in practice and are questionable at best for Sunday’s contest.
