It’s been a tough couple weeks being a Jets fan and there are still 14 games to go. At this current pace, the Jets will be knocking on the door of that first overall pick come spring of 2018. Meanwhile, Jay Cutler continues to lead a Dolphins team looking to go 2-0 for the first time since 2013.

Current NFL odds have the Dolphins set as a favourite on the road in Week 3.

Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets

Point Spread: Dolphins -6

Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Since the 2010 season, the Jets and Dolphins have met 14 times, with both teams winning seven games. The Dolphins are coming off a season series sweep in 2016 that saw them covering the spread both times while knocking off the Jets 27-23 in Miami and 34-13 in New Jersey. The Dolphins rely on a strong running game to set up a lethal passing attack. It should be noted that the Jets have allowed a league worst, 370 yards rushing against in only two games.

In this past offseason, the Jets went quarterback shopping and Jay Cutler was on that list. As the story goes the Jets passed on the 34-year-old pivot, opting for Josh McCown. Maybe they should have reconsidered, considering Cutler has never lost to the Jets (3-0 lifetime), while averaging 33 points of offence in those starts. According to Pro Football Focus, Cutler had the fifth-highest grade of all quarterbacks in Week 2. When facing no pressure, Cutler completed 20 of 24 passes for 199 yards, and a touchdown. In his last five games under Adam Gase, Cutler’s lowest passer rating was a very respectable 93.4. One concern in their Week 2 win was the overall play of the defence, as it allowed 467 total yards to the Chargers. However, the Jets offence won’t pose the same threat as the Lightning bolts did.

New York Jets

Entering the season, there wasn’t much positive press pointed at the Jets and with an 0-2 start, they have lived up to those predictions. At the start of the year, one positive forecast was the Jets defence, with expectations ranking the team as a top 10 defence, but through 2 weeks of the season they’ve allowed an NFL-high 66 points. Last Sunday in Oakland, Derek Carr completed 82 percent of his passes, while the Raiders running game accumulated 180 yards along the ground on 27 carries. Dolphin’s running back Jay Ajayi is coming off a strong effort vs. Chargers (28 carries, 122 yards) and raced for 162 yards in two games against the Jets last season.
