Dolphins vs. Jets Point Spread: NFL Week 18 Odds, Prediction

The 8-8 Dolphins, still without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, have somehow stayed alive in the AFC playoff race and a win on Sunday combined with a Kansas City win over Denver gets Miami the seventh seed AKA the final spot in the post-season.

Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley will again be under centre for Miami after leading them to a 20-3 victory at Cleveland last week. Miami’s now won two straight, and six of their last eight contests. The 4-12 Jets are pushing along with 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers who has acknowledged the possibility of Sunday being his final NFL game.

Kickoff at MetLife Stadium is set for 4:25 p.m. EST with the Dolphins currently a -120 moneyline favourite on the road and the over-under at 39 on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Miami’s been up and down on the road this season, but the one constant has been a lack of points. Between last week’s 20-3 win at Cleveland last week, or a 24-3 loss at Seattle to start their road journey in 2024… the under has gone 7-1 in Miami’s eight road contests this season. Miami’s been a top 10 defence in points allowed too with 20.8 points against per game.

Huntley has started four games for the Dolphins this season and Miami’s scored 12, 15, 10, and 20 points in those contests. Miami’s 2-2 in those four games and shouldn’t have troubles stopping Rodgers and the Jets as they’re coming off two embarrassing showings on offence. Head-to-head, the Jets are both 1-5 outright and ATS their last six times hosting the Dolphins.

Miami Dolphins

Tyler Huntley leaned on Miami’s two top pass-catchers last week in Tyreek Hill and Jonnu Smith, and the new starting QB in Miami could be getting another weapon this weekend. Head coach Mike McDaniel is optimistic Jaylen Waddle (knee) will play in Week 18. Waddle’s 700 receiving yards is third on Miami, behind Hill and Smith. With 61 receiving yards on Sunday, Hill would reach his seventh 1,000-yard receiving season in the NFL and fifth straight.

On an injury front, left tackle Terron Armstead (knee), safety Jordan Poyer (knee/finger) and linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. (knee) all missed Wednesday’s practice. Armstead exited during last week’s win at Cleveland and would be a huge loss in a game of this magnitude for Miami.

New York Jets

It was no kind of paradise last weekend for the Jets when they went down 40-0 at Buffalo last week. Tyrod Taylor, who came in for Aaron Rodgers when the deficit became 40 points, threw a pair of touchdown passes to make the final 40-14. Rodgers finishing 12 of 18 for 112 yards and zero scores kept the 41-year-old at 499 career TD passes. Receiver Davante Adams caught Rodgers 200th and 400th touchdowns which should make him the favourite to catch number 500. Adams had eight targets last week, his fifth straight week with at least eight.

Right tackle Morgan Moses (knee), cornerback Sauce Gardner (hamstring), and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (hamstring) all missed practice on Wednesday and may not suit up in New York’s season finale.
