Being a pre-season road favourite is untravelled territory for the Dolphins, who have been road faves on the exhibition calendar just once in the past five years.

While most of the position battles for both teams have been sewn up, the Dolphins-Falcons Week 4 pre-season matchup still matters to fans and bettors alike. For starters, both teams are looking to avoid going winless in exhibition play. The Dolphins will be looking to shore up their defense – even with most of the starters sitting this one out – after allowing 80 points in three pre-season losses. Meanwhile, Atlanta will look to improve upon the 20 points it has scored through its first three exhibition defeats.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The betting public has made a major statement: they like Miami’s reserves better than those of the home side, betting this line all the way down to Dolphins -1 from Atlanta -2.5 on the NFL odds board. That’s due in no small part to the fact that the Falcons come in having lost seven consecutive pre-season games straight-up, while going 0-9 ATS in their past nine. Scoring has been a major problem over that stretch, with Atlanta having surpassed 17 points just once in that span.

Miami hasn’t fare much better, going 2-6 both SU and ATS in its previous eight exhibition contests. But these teams diverge on their totals performance of late, with the Falcons an incredible 1-9 ATS in their last 10 pre-season outings and the Dolphins having converted the over in six of their previous seven games. Bettors appear to favor the home trend in this one, with the total having dipped two points from a 37.5-point opening figure.

Miami Dolphins

Being a pre-season road favourite is untravelled territory for the Dolphins, who have been road faves on the exhibition calendar just once in the past five years. That one ended up being a 27-10 loss in Chicago, dropping Miami to 3-4 SU and ATS in seven games as a pre-season road favourite. The Dolphins dropped a 16-10 decision to the Falcons the last time these teams faced off in exhibition play back in 2014.

Atlanta Falcons

While the Falcons are sure to rest the majority of their first-stringers, they still have something to play for: specifically their first exhibition cover as a home underdog in more than a decade. Atlanta has lost each of its last two pre-season games as a home ‘dog, including a 28-14 setback to Kansas City in Week 2 back on Aug. 17. The Falcons are 4-4 SU and 5-3 ATS in eight all-time games as an exhibition underdog in their own stadium.
