Dolphins vs. Eagles Point Spread: NFL Week 7 Odds, Prediction
Sunday Night Football features a mouth-watering battle between two high-flying teams, the Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles, the latter who are 2-point favourites on the NFL odds.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
This looked like a very good matchup when the schedule came out but now it looks truly spectacular. We knew the Eagles would be excellent after nearly winning Super Bowl 57 – and they probably should have beaten Kansas City back in February. Miami was knocked out on Wild Card weekend by Buffalo but its offence has taken a quantum leap forward in 2023. Can the warm-weather Fins win in Buffalo or Kansas City in the snow in January to win the AFC title? That remains to be seen.
It’s an Alabama QB reunion between Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa and Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts, both MVP candidates (Hurts was runner-up last season). In the 2017 season with the Crimson Tide, Hurts was the starter but struggled in the BCS Championship Game vs. Georgia and was replaced at halftime by a then-unknown Tua, who led an Alabama rally to the national title. Tagovailoa was then the Tide starter in 2018 and Hurts was the backup, although Hurts replaced an injured Tua in that year’s SEC title game and led a comeback win over Georgia. After that season, Hurts transferred to Oklahoma.
Philadelphia leads the all-time series 9-6 but has lost the past two – most recently in 2019 in south Florida.
Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins are on a near record-setting offensive pace after a 42-21 home win over Carolina on Sunday. Tua Tagovailoa threw three more TD passes and is your NFL MVP favourite. With excellent rookie running back De’Von Achane out at least four games, Raheem Mostert rushed 17 times for 115 yards and two scores and caught a TD pass. Mostert has 11 touchdowns this season and is the sixth different player with at least 11 touchdowns in his team’s first six games of a season since 1970.
WR Tyreek Hill caught six passes for 163 yards and a TD and is the Offensive Player of the Year favourite and on pace to shatter the single-season receiving yardage record. Hill’s 814 yards are the most receiving by a player in his team’s first six games of a season in the Super Bowl era. Miami’s 223 points are the fifth most by a team in its first six games of a season in the SB Era, and its 2,992 total yards are No. 2 in that span. It’s possible Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey could make his Miami debut this week off injury.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles were the last NFL unbeaten in 2022 and were the last this year, albeit only by a few hours after the San Francisco 49ers also lost their first game Sunday. The Eagles had been playing with fire often and it caught up to them in a 20-14 loss at the Jets, snapping Jalen Hurts’ streak of 11 straight road wins, among the longest by a QB since 1970.
He threw for a score and rushed for one against New York but had a career-high-tying three interceptions against a short-handed Jets secondary. Eagles centre Jason Kelce set the franchise record by making his 145th consecutive start. Pro Bowl right tackle Lane Johnson left in the first quarter with an ankle injury and didn’t return. That would be significant loss if he were to miss time. The weather is forecast to be quite nice in Philly on Sunday but chilly.
