Cowboys vs. Lions TNF Point Spread: NFL Week 14 Odds, Prediction
Thanks to a three-game winning streak, the Cowboys have resuscitated their season and are edging ever closer to a playoff spot each week. QB Dak Prescott threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns as Dallas knocked off the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-28, on Thanksgiving Day.
Meanwhile, the Lions are venturing ever further away from last year’s 15-2 campaign. Detroit suffered a 31-24 setback at home to the Green Bay Packers, its fourth loss in the past seven games.
Coach Dan Campbell’s squad was without WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, TE Sam LaPorta, and several other key offensive players against the Packers and is hoping to gain some of those reinforcements back in time for Dallas.
Thursday Night Football Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Cowboys are 5-1 against the spread as underdogs this season, though just 2-1 ATS on the road. The team has won six of seven against the Lions, although Detroit prevailed easily last season, 47-9.
The Lions are 13-1 against the spread in their last 14 games coming off an outright loss. Detroit has averaged 38.5 points in its previous four games coming off a loss this season. However, the team is just 1-4 ATS in its past five games overall.
Look for QB Jared Goff, who has completed 69.8% of his passes for 3,025 yards and 25 touchdowns, to pick apart Dallas’ defence, which is 30th in the league against the pass, allowing an average of 251.5 yards per game. Goff is currently listed at -115 to throw for more than 127.5 yards in the first half.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys always have a chance with a healthy Prescott under centre. He’s completed 69.3% of his passes for 3,261 yards and 25 touchdowns. With WR George Pickens, who leads the team with 1,142 yards, and WR CeeDee Lamb, who had seven catches for 112 yards and a touchdown against the Chiefs, on the outside, Prescott has one of the top wide receiver duos in the league to throw to.
Add in RB Javonte Williams, who is averaging 4.8 yards on the ground while rushing for 955 yards and eight touchdowns, and, understandably, the Cowboys have the league’s No. 1 offence. Now, that defence on the other hand… well… take the Over. Dallas is 31st in the league in points allowed at 28.5 per game. The pass defence stinks, and the run defence is average at best.
Detroit Lions
Don’t look now, but the feel-good window for the Lions is closing quickly. The defence is often much maligned, but Detroit is 1-2 since Campbell took over offensive play-calling duties.
No Lions stat stands out more than RB Jahmyr Gibbs’ production in wins versus losses. In the Lions’ seven wins, Gibbs has gone for 114.7 yards per game and scored 10 touchdowns. In their five losses, he is averaging 43.2 yards rushing with no touchdowns on the ground.
The team could be without St. Brown, its leading receiver, again Thursday night. Campbell has got to get Gibbs the ball, on the ground or through the air, throughout the game.
NFL Prediction: Who Will Win Cowboys vs. Lions?
These two teams are maddening to predict right now. Dallas has the momentum, but Detroit has responded powerfully in these situations the past few years. Look for the Lions to do just enough for the win at home, 35-31.
