Cowboys vs. Jets Point Spread: NFL Week 5 Odds, Prediction

The 1-2-1 Dallas Cowboys head to MetLife Stadium this Sunday for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff against the 0-4 New York Jets.

Neither team is lighting the world on fire to start the season, but the Cowboys caught headlines after playing the Packers to a 40-40 tie on Sunday Night Football. This game marked the second-highest-scoring tie in NFL history, but the Boys will definitely want to get to .500 with a win against New York.

The Jets come in following an embarrassing 27-21 defeat against the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football, so the hosts will be just as eager as Dallas in this matchup.

The Cowboys are 2.5-point favourites to win on the NFL odds, with the total set at 47.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Cowboys are small field-goal favourites, and oddsmakers expect plenty of points since it’s one of the highest totals on the board. The Over is 8-4 in Dallas’ last 12 games, and the Cowboys have gone 4-1-1 ATS in their previous six meetings with New York. Meanwhile, the Jets are just 6-12 ATS in their latest 18 games, but they’ve also been scoring points, as the Over has cashed in five of their last six contests.

Dak Prescott is leading the NFL in passing yards (1,119), and his passing yards total sits at 240.5, while Justin Fields’ is 192.5.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a historic tie in Week 4, which almost felt like a win given their performance this season. After losing to the Eagles in the NFL opener, they’ve beaten the 1-3 Giants in overtime and lost to a 2-2 Bears team by 17. Tying the Green Bay Packers, who are Super Bowl contenders, without their star WR CeeDee Lamb is a great result. The Oklahoma wideout suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 3 and currently has no timetable to return.

Dallas has historically struggled without Lamb; since 2023, the Cowboys averaged 13.3 PPG in the three previous games without CeeDee compared to 26.3 PPG when he played. However, last week’s offensive explosion, led by George Pickens (134 receiving yards and two TDs), Jake Ferguson (seven receptions and one TD), and Javonte Williams (85 rushing yards and one TD), showed Dallas has other weapons for Prescott.

New York Jets

Jets fans won’t take many positives from last week’s loss to the Dolphins, but it’s worth noting that they’ve dropped three of their four opening games by one score. Additionally, it was the fewest points they’ve allowed in a game so far, but they failed to force a turnover and are last in the NFL in turnover margin at -7. Justin Fields actually played well, as he had 226 passing yards, 81 rushing yards, and two total touchdowns. However, two costly fumbles by the Jets’ play-caller were the difference.

Starting DE/LB Jermaine Johnson II did not participate in practice on Wednesday due to an ankle injury, so his status is worth monitoring. The Jets cannot afford to lose anyone on the defensive side of the ball, and I’m not sure how they’re going to slow down a Dallas offence that’s averaging 404.3 yards per game (first in the NFL).

NFL Prediction: Who Will Win Cowboys vs. Jets?

Until the Jets show anything different, I can’t trust this defence. However, the Cowboys’ defence isn’t slowing anyone down either, as the two units rank 29th (NYJ) and 31st (DAL) in points allowed per game this season.

Jets’ games have averaged 52.5 points while the Cowboys’ games have featured 61.5 PPG. Expect a high-scoring game at MetLife, as the Cowboys should win in a 31-27 shootout.
