The Cowboys have an opportunity to get some momentum going as they face the hapless New York Giants. The Giants fired head coach Ben McAdoo this week as the team is in complete disarray. Still, surprising the Cowboys and ruining their playoff hopes is a cause they might unite for.

Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Giants have actually overachieved from a sports betting perspective this season. New York is 2-10 straight up but owns a 5-7-0 record against the spread. They have covered two of their last three games, playing the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders very tight. Meanwhile, the Cowboys are 6-6 straight up and 6-6 ATS. Last week was their first cover in four tries. They are 3-1 ATS inside the division and 5-3 ATS as a favorite this season.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys offense finally found a rhythm in last week’s win over Washington. After being held to single-digit point totals in three straight losses, Dallas exploded for 38 points for a blowout win over the Redskins. Dak Prescott threw for just 102 yards but he had two touchdown passes and the Cowboys rushing attack came alive. Alfred Morris led the way with 127 yards and a touchdown while Rod Smith ran for another 27 yards and a score. Morris and Smith will need to deliver strong performances as they’ll be facing the worst run defense in the NFL. It’s clear that the Cowboys can’t win on Dak’s arm right now but if they can run, they’re in good shape.

The bottom line for the Cowboys is they’re still in the playoff hunt and have something to play for. The Giants just fired their head coach and are in disarray. If the Cowboys can get on top early, it’s likely the Giants go quietly into the night. If the Giants feel like they have a shot – as they have the last three weeks – they’ll make this a game.

New York Giants

The Giants are an interesting team to watch heading into this week. Owner John Mara called the team’s 2-10 record an embarrassment after cleaning house by firing general manager Jerry Reese and head coach Ben McAdoo. Steve Spagnuolo takes over as the interim head coach this week. Spagnuolo’s defense hasn’t been terrible this year but the numbers aren’t as good as they could be if the offense did more to take the pressure off of them. With Eli Manning back at quarterback this week, will the team rally around him? They actually played well last week, save for Geno Smith’s turnovers.

The Cowboys are a big favorite here but do you really want to lay this many points with an offense that’s struggled mightily over the last month?
