Cowboys vs. Giants Point Spread: NFL Week 18 Odds, Prediction
The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants close out their seasons with an divisional bout up in East Rutherford.
The 7-8-1 Cowboys are chasing a perfect .500 season after defeating Washington 30-23 on Christmas. The win snapped a three-game skid for Dallas, who have been eliminated from playoff contention for the second straight season.
The Giants are looking to end their season on a high note, as they ended a nine-game winless drought with a 34-10 victory over Las Vegas last week. While the win bumped the Giants out of the top pick in the NFL draft for now, rookie Jaxson Dart continues to show signs he can be New York’s guy at QB moving forward and he’ll be under centre for this regular season finale.
Kickoff at MetLife Stadium goes at 1 p.m. EST with Dallas -3.5 on the point spread and a -185 moneyline favourite, while the total is at 51.5 on the NFL odds.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The over has now hit in five straight Cowboys games, and 12 of their 16 played this season. The over is on a run with the Giants too, going 5-1 over their last six outings. Head-to-head, the over is 10-4 in the last 14 Cowboys–Giants matchups and these teams went way over the total back in Week 2 when Dallas defeated the Giants 40-37 in overtime. The game featured nearly 1,000 yards of offence, although New York was led by QB Russell Wilson and RB Cam Skattebo, both of whom are no longer in the starting offence.
Dallas holds a nine-game win streak over the Giants and are 7-1 in their last eight trips to play the G-Men in New York. The Giants are 3-13 overall in their last 16 home outings.
Dallas Cowboys
The plan is for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys starters to continue playing this week, hence Dallas entering as a road favourite. Prescott leads the NFL with 4,482 passing yards and needs 419 yards to break his career high set back in 2019; he passed for 361 back in Week 2 against the Giants. Both Javonte Williams and Malik Davis are banged up per head coach Brian Schottenheimer, leaving the RB position in question for Dallas. If both can’t go, rookie Jaydon Blue would be expected to be the starter and fullback Hunter Luepke may take on a bigger role.
Veteran cornerback Trevon Diggs won’t be playing for Dallas either after being released earlier this week. The Cowboys are dead last in the NFL with 253.6 passing yards allowed per game and have generated just six interceptions this season and haven’t forced a turnover in two weeks.
New York Giants
The Giants can say they weren’t the worst team in the NFL this season after dominating Las Vegas 34-10 in the “first overall pick bowl” last weekend. The play of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart would’ve already made the first pick an interesting chip for the Giants to hold, as Dart continues to prove he’s a potential long-term starter. Dart finished with 207 passing yards, 48 rushing yards, and two touchdowns in last week’s win and connected with Wan’Dale Robinson 11 times for 113 yards. Robinson now has 1,014 yards on the season, and two straight campaigns with 90 receptions. Robinson needs eight catches on Sunday to reach 100 this year.
The bad news for New York is several starters missed Wednesday’s practice including Robinson (ribs). Defensive backs Jevon Holland (knee/concussion) and Cor’Dale Flott (knee) also sat out Wednesday after exiting last week’s game at Las Vegas. Keep an eye on the status of those defensive guys, as the Giants will need all hands on deck against Dallas’ passing attack.
