Cowboys vs. Commanders Point Spread: NFL Week 17 Odds, Prediction
Both teams have been eliminated from postseason contention and are among the biggest disappointments in the league this year.
Dallas officially said goodbye to the playoffs with a 34-17 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Dak Prescott went 21 for 30 for 244 yards and two touchdowns, but the Cowboys didn’t score in the second half and couldn’t take down Justin Herbert, the NFL’s most-sacked quarterback.
The Commanders fell even further on the depth chart in a 29-18 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday. Marcus Mariota and journeyman Josh Johnson combined for 138 passing yards as Washington lost its fifth straight at home.
Now, Washington has a trio of names from seasons past to consider with the Cowboys coming into town on Christmas Day.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
On the NFL odds board, Dallas is 7-3 straight up and 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 games against the Commanders. That includes a 5-0 ATS and 4-1 straight-up run in the last five meetings.
Washington is 2-8 against the spread in its last 10 games, including 0-5 ATS at home.
The Cowboys have played to the over five straight times on the road, while the Commanders have played to the over five times at home.
Dallas Cowboys
It is confirmed: 30 years and counting. That’s the length of time since the Cowboys won, or even appeared in, a Super Bowl. America’s team still gets all the headlines and national coverage, but for what? The team is now missing the postseason for the second year in a row.
Prescott, second in the league with 4,175 passing yards, found a favourite new target in George Pickens this season. Pickens is third in the league with 1,342 receiving yards. He had seven catches for 130 yards and a touchdown against the Chargers to erase a couple of weeks of subpar play.
Ryan Flournoy, an emerging wideout who scored his second touchdown in three weeks, left the game with a knee injury, and he is questionable for Thursday.
Washington Commanders
The Commanders had quarterback Jayden Daniels for just seven games this season. The resulting drop from 12-5 NFC Championship game runners-up to 4-11 wreck shows how much the team’s success was dependent on his arm, legs and leadership. Several other starters have missed extended time from a franchise that was relatively healthy last year.
Now, Mariota is questionable. That leaves Johnson or Sam Bradford, yes, Sam Bradford, as options under centre. Good luck.
NFL Prediction: Who Will Win Cowboys vs. Commanders?
If you get tickets to this game under the Christmas tree, try to return them. The only thing interesting about this matchup is how many points these teams will score.
Dallas features the NFL’s top passing offence and the No. 2-ranked offensive unit overall. The Commanders are fourth in the league in rushing. Meanwhile, Dallas is 30th defensively, just ahead of Washington’s 31st-ranked unit. Neither team can stop the pass, and the CommandeCrs are pretty bad against the run as well.
The Cowboys doubled up the Commanders in Arlington in October. Look for a similar result, even though Dallas will be disengaged. Take the Cowboys to win 34-17.
