NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
One could call this the bragging rights for the most audacious stadium in American sports between LA’s SoFi Stadium and the Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium. Both truly epic achievements in architecture. The difference is that Jerry Jones owns his building, while the Chargers are renters at SoFi as that’s owned by Rams owner Stan Kroenke.
Los Angeles is a Rams town first. Probably Raiders second even though they haven’t played in LA in years. The Chargers might not even be third, and it might feel like a Cowboys home game Monday night because their fans travel as well as any.
Dallas leads the all-time series 7-5 and won the last meeting also in LA in Week 2 of the 2021 season, 20-17. Greg Zuerlein made a 56-yard field goal as time expired. Dak Prescott threw for 237 yards and a pick and Tony Pollard rushed for 109 yards and a TD. Justin Herbert threw for 338 yards with a TD and pick for the Bolts.
Dallas Cowboys
Are the Cowboys frauds? They have beaten the quarterback-terrible trio of New York Giants, New York Jets and New England Patriots by a combined score of 108-13 but lost by 12 at Arizona in Week 3 and were completely manhandled Sunday night in a 42-10 loss at San Francisco, perhaps showing how far Dallas has to go to reach the 49ers’ level. They also have eliminated the Cowboys from the past two postseasons. Dallas had just 197 total yards and eight first downs Sunday. Dak Prescott returned to his interception-prone ways with three before being pulled to avoid injury. There was arguably nothing positive to take from the loss. “Didn’t see it coming,” said Prescott of the largest defeat of his NFL career. “Put everything into it and got punched in the mouth.” Of the 11 possessions with Prescott at quarterback, nine of them lasted three plays or fewer. The Dallas defence that allowed two touchdown passes in the first four games saw Brock Purdy throw four and was able to sack him just once.
Los Angeles Chargers
The first-year offensive coordinator with the Chargers is former longtime Cowboys OC Kellen Moore, also once a backup QB in Dallas. He was forced out in Big D after another playoff failure but wasn’t on the market long. One goal for LA was to be better running the ball. The Bolts are averaging 119.0 ypg on the ground and that’s playing without injured Pro Bowl running back Austin Ekeler since Week 1. He should be ready for Monday as well as defensive stars Joey Bosa and Derwin James, who both missed the team’s last game. Those latter two are hugely needed as the Chargers are allowing a league-worst 299.8 passing yards per game. The team actually made a trade during its bye week, sending former Pro Bowl cornerback JC Jackson to New England for a late-round pick. Jackson was the Chargers’ big-money free-agent signing before the 2022 season but a huge bust and had been benched so it’s no major loss other than financially.
