Commanders vs. Packers TNF Point Spread: NFL Week 2 Odds, Prediction
The Commanders are looking to build on a breakthrough season a year ago, which saw them go 12-5 and reach the NFC Championship game for the first time in 33 years behind the arm, legs, and leadership of NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels and first-year coach Dan Quinn.
The Packers went 11-6 and reached the playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons under Matt LaFleur, but were knocked out in the Wild Card round by the Philadelphia Eagles.
This is a rare matchup at Lambeau between the teams, with Green Bay having won six straight dating back to 1988.
Thursday Night Football Point Spread and Betting
The Packers are 3.5-point favourites with current NFL money line odds of -190. Washington’s money line is currently +155. The total is listed at 48 points.
The Commanders covered as a six-point favourite at home last week against the New York Giants, playing to the under in a 21-6 victory.
Green Bay surprised the two-time defending NFC North champion Detroit Lions and covered as 2.5-point favourites while playing to the under in a 27-13 triumph.
Washington Commanders
Washington showed red-zone grit against the Giants, holding New York to three points on two trips inside the Commanders’ five-yard line. The defence held New York to 231 yards of total offence, including just 74 rushing yards on 23 attempts.
Daniels started this season off strong, going 19 for 30 for 233 passing yards and a touchdown to Zach Ertz. He also rushed for 68 yards while rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt added 82 yards and a score on the ground as part of a 220-yard rushing day for the team.
Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel had a strong debut for his new team with seven catches for 77 yards and a 19-yard rushing touchdown.
Green Bay Packers
The story ahead of last week’s Packers home opener against the Lions was the trade for Dallas Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons late in the preseason. The disruptor lived up to his reputation with a sack while forcing Lions quarterback Jared Goff to throw an interception as Green Bay made an early statement in both the division and the NFC.
The Packers’ defence limited the Lions, who led the league with 33.2 points a year ago, to 246 total yards and one touchdown, which came in the game’s final minute on a crazy catch in the end zone by Lions rookie Isaac TeSlaa.
Josh Jacobs extended his Green Bay franchise record by scoring a touchdown in his ninth consecutive game.
NFL Prediction: Who Will Win Commanders vs. Packers?
It’s unfortunate that this game is taking place on Thursday night. The short week ruins the calibre of play of most of these money-grab contests, even early in the season between two playoff teams.
That being said, look for the stars to come out to play in primetime. The last time the Commanders were in the limelight, they were getting drubbed by the Eagles and embarrassed by the Tush Push in the NFC Championship Game.
Those Eagles also eliminated the Packers, and both teams want to return to the postseason. Look for Green Bay to take the next step here, using its Lambeau Field advantage to win at home, 24-21. With that in mind, look for the Commanders to cover as 3.5-point underdogs and for the game to go to the under.
