Commanders vs. Jets Point Spread: NFL Week 16 Odds, Prediction
The Jets return home reeling from a soul crushing 30-0 loss in Miami last weekend that marks their sixth defeat in seven games. The Commanders arrive in the Big Apple on a five-game slide that has ended their playoff hopes after falling 28-20 to the Los Angeles Rams last weekend.
The Jets enter this week’s edition of the Futility Bowl perched as 3-point favourites on the NFL Week 16 odds. The Commanders lag as +140 underdogs on the NFL moneyline, and the total is listed at just 37.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Sunday’s matchup at MetLife Stadium features two teams that have struggled on both sides of the ball in recent weeks. With last week’s shutout defat, the Jets have now been limited to 13 or fewer points in seven of eight outings, with the lone exception being a 30-6 rain-soaked win over Houston two weeks ago. The Commanders defence has been embarrassed with regularity during the team’s five-game swoon. Washington has allowed 35.8 points per game during their current slide, and has scored just 16 points per game while failing in four straight contests.
Washington Commanders
Finding positives during the Commanders late-season collapse is a challenge. Heralded as a rising star while connecting on 14 total TD passes during the team’s 4-5 SU start, quarterback Sam Howell has steadily faded as this team’s losses have piled up. Howell has tossed just one total scoring pass against three picks while completing just 54.8 per cent of pass attempts over the past three weeks, but has redeemed himself with four scoring runs over his past four outings. However, injuries have emerged as a concern, particularly in the backfield. Sidelined by a leg injury last weekend, Brian Robinson did not practice on Wednesday and remains questionable to return to the lineup this weekend, while Jonathan Williams reverted back to the practice squad this week after suffering a concussion in last weekend’s loss.
New York Jets
Already struggled to find its groove, the Jets feeble offence suffered another blow last weekend when Zach Wilson was forced to leave the game with a concussion. Wilson did not practice on Wednesday, but while the team is hopefully that their starting quarterback will be able to return on Sunday, Jets fans must prepare themselves for the real possibility that veteran Trevor Siemian will once again be leading the offence on Sunday. Siemian tossed for just 110 yards, no scores, and two picks in last week’s defeat while at the helm of the NFL’s worst offence, which has covered just once in eight games and scored just five total touchdowns over the past seven games. Things have gone no better for the Jets ground game, which has produced just one scoring run over the past seven games and mustered fewer than 30 rushing yards twice in the past four weeks. Second-year rusher Breece Hall has particularly struggled, averaging just 24 rushing yards over his past six appearances.
