Commanders vs. Giants Point Spread: NFL Week 7 Odds, Prediction

Ron Rivera’s Commanders have been a pleasant surprise through six weeks of the NFL season. They most recently visited the Atlanta Falcons and took the game 24-16. Conversely, the New York have been a gigantic disappointment, pardon the pun. Perhaps their valiant effort in Buffalo on Sunday night will give them momentum despite the 14-9 defeat.
In a sign of the times, Washington heads into MetLife Stadium as slight -2.5 favourites on the NFL odds.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
There was more than one contest that ended in a draw during the 2022 season and these teams were involved in one of them. They played a 20-20 tie in early December before the Giants got the better of the Commanders later that same month. The win was the first time in four tries that New York conquered their old rival. That brief sequence in Washington’s favour itself halted a run of five Giants wins before that.
While the Commanders’ 3-3 straight-up tally mirrors results against the spread, individual game outcomes haven’t always been identical. Week 1’s victory over Arizona did not cover the spread. Conversely, losing to the Eagles in overtime a few weeks ago did since Washington was such a heavy underdog.
Things haven’t only been bad for the Giants in the standings, but against the spread as well. To that point, their cover in Week 6 away to Buffalo was their first successful attempt of the year. Even their three-point straight-up win in Arizona earlier this season didn’t do the trick.
Washington Commanders
Wherever this season takes the Commanders, no one can deny that they’ve been pleasantly frisky through the first third of the calendar. Some bumps in the road (bad losses to the Bills and Bears) have been followed up by nice efforts like in Atlanta last Sunday.
Are the Falcons the most difficult opponent a team can face? No, but nor are the Commanders, so that they were able to squeeze out a road win was a good sign. The accumulated yards heavily favoured Atlanta (402 to 192), but the Commanders’ defence perfected the tried, tested, and true philosophy of “bend but don’t break.” Yes, they coughed up a ton of yardage, but also intercepted Falcons QB Desmond Ridder three times, limited Atlanta to 5-for-15 on third down and only 16 points. Sam Howell’s stat line of 14-for-23 for 151 didn’t raise eyebrows, but he tossed three TDs. Despite limited opportunities, WR Terry McLaurin is starting to compile some decent numbers this season. The Commanders didn’t make all the plays, but they made the ones that counted the most.
Washington’s style of play might not be the most exciting, but the fact that it’s hard to predict the outcomes of their games makes them interesting at least.
CB Christian Holmes is questionable.
New York Giants
Sunday night was the sort of contest in which one side knows it virtually did all it could to win – and needed to– yet still committed too many mistakes to merit a victory. If it were possible to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, the Giants kind of did that against the Bills.
Defensively, this was an excellent performance. For the second week in a row Buffalo’s offence looked discombobulated, only this time it had nothing to do with a radically different time zone and a 6-hour plane ride. The Giants simply played lights out, limiting Josh Allen and company to under 300 yards of offence – no easy feat. And yet, and yet… the offence. Tyrod Taylor stood in for a banged up Daniels Jones and looked capable at times. Other times fans were reminded why he’s a backup. Nine penalties killed multiple drives, and then of course there was the play at the end of the first half that had everyone talking.
The 2023 Giants are not allowed to have nice things. The defence shows up big time, yet the attack gets creative in its ineptitude. Make the final 14-9 for the Bills.
QB Daniel Jones is still questionable.
