Commanders vs. Cowboys Point Spread: NFL Week 7 Odds, Prediction
Both Dallas and Washington enter Week 7 as top scoring offences, and in a stat that does not surprise many… the Cowboys rank second-worst in the NFL with 30.7 points allowed per game.
The ripple effects of the Micah Parsons trade continues to hurt Dallas, and last weekend was the prime example when they Carolina Panthers got the ball left with 6:07 left and ran the entire clock out before kicking a game-winning field goal. Oh, and the Cowboys were outgained 216-31 on the ground, with most of the damage coming from former Dallas running back Rico Dowdle. But at the end of the day, the 2-3-1 Cowboys are right there with the 3-3 Commanders which makes Sunday a big one out in Jerry World.
Kickoff at AT&T Stadium starts at 4:25 p.m. EDT, with the Commanders a -130 road favourite. Washington is -2 on the point spread and the NFL odds have the total in this one way up at 55.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Dallas enters Sunday having scored at least 30 points in three of their last four battles with Washington. Around 30 is likely the benchmark for the Cowboys to have a chance this weekend too, as Dallas continues to average over 30 points against per game. Washington’s scored at least 24 points in four straight games but are just 2-2 in that span.
The over is 4-2 this season in Cowboys games and 2-0 when they’re at home. Head-to-head, Dallas and Washington have seen 13 of their last 18 games go over the total. Dallas is also 7-1 against the spread in their last eight times hosting Washington.
Despite the winner of this game claiming second place in the NFC East, the odds to win the division are drastic as Washington is at +225 and Dallas +700. The 4-2 Eagles are a -170 favourite to win the NFC East, currently.
Washington Commanders
The Commanders have alternated wins and losses through six weeks of the NFL season. The good news is the pattern indicates they’re in line for a win on Sunday; the bad news is this is too much inconsistency for a team that was supposed to take another step. Sophomore quarterback Jayden Daniels might be getting a boost as star receiver Terry McLaurin could return to the lineup after missing the last three games with a quad injury. Leading receiver Deebo Samuel is banged up though, going on the Washington injury report with a heel injury.
Defensively, the Commanders are seeking some balance. The Commanders rank 26th in the NFL in yards allowed per game (356.8) and there’s one key statistic in this up-and-down season so far: when Washington allows fewer than 25 points, they are 3-0. When they allow 25 or more, they are 0-3. And Sunday on the road at Dallas will be no easy task.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys philosophy appears to be “outscore teams or die trying” and they learned the consequences the hard way when watching Carolina’s offence bleed out the final half of the fourth quarter en route to a walk-off victory. Ultimately, Dallas was a one-trick pony on offence too with 261 passing yards but just 31 rushing yards on 19 carries. George Pickens continues to be an absolute beast through the air, hauling in a career-best nine catches for 168 receiving yards and a touchdown in the loss. Star receiver CeeDee Lamb, who’s missed the better part of four games with an ankle injury, was a limited practice participant on Wednesday.
Bottom line is the Dallas defence needs to be better if the Cowboys are to compete. Opponents have scored at least 30 points in four of Dallas’ six games this year and it’s making evey week an uphill battle for Dak Prescott and the offence. So far Dallas has just four takeaways in six weeks.
