Commanders vs. Colts Point Spread: NFL Week 8 Odds, Prediction
Despite not making it look easy, the Maryland-based squad is riding a 2-game winning streak. Conversely, even though their record isn’t disastrous, Indy seems to be a team searching for answers.
Regardless, the prognosticators have Frank Reich’s Colts as -3 favourites on the NFL odds. The number of points scored is predicted to be 40.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
These NFC and AFC units only face off against one another once every four years on average, so history won’t reveal too much. For those curious, Indy has won 4 of the past 5 meetings, including the last 4.
Ron Rivera’s Commanders sport a 3-4 record ATS in 2022. They’re a funky team to handle for the oddsmakers. They’ve been -1 favourites in 3 of their 7 games. That’s a team involved in “pick’em” games. Of note, Washington isn’t a strong road team, compiling a 1-3 win-loss record as well as ATS, with each defeat being quite decisive.
As for the Colts, their results ATS in 2022 have been confounding. They’ve earned a 3-4 record, which isn’t terrible. When reading between the lines, the road to 3-4 has been odd. 3 of their failures to cover when they were favoured. Conversely, they’ve covered twice when underdogs! They stand as -3 favourites this week. That from that what you will, betters.
Washington Commanders
The Taylor Heinicke experience was back in town in DC last Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. Similarly to the 2020 and 2021 editions, one’s mileage varies. They got the job done), which is what matters above all else, but it was a loopy effort with no less than 3 dropped INTs thrown by Heinicke in the first half, plus the actual INT pick 6.
Their strength on offence was running, as they collectively gashed their opponents for 168 rushing yards on the day. Brian Robinson Jr earned the most totes with 20 (73 yards), whereas Antonio Gibson did the bigger damage per carry (10 for 59 yards). WR Terry McLaurin also had a great day, nabbing 5 catches for a whopping 73 yards and a score. His TD was the highlight of the day, with tight coverage locked onto him on a deep endzone toss from Heinicke.
Indianapolis Colts
Whereas the Commanders have shifted QBs out of injury-born necessity, Colts coach Frank Reich has opted to start Sam Ehlinger to improve results. Matt Ryan’s tenure as leader of the offence has not gone according to plan. What must be the most frustrating thing about this situation is that the Colts are, statistically, a low-middle-of-the-pack offence. It isn’t as if they aren’t gaining yards or first downs through the air. Yet they rank 30th in scoring per game and 28th in total points scored. They have Jonathan Taylor at RB and yet are ranked 30th in rushing yards.
Last week’s game in Tennessee was a microcosm of all those frustrations. The rival Titans only managed to put 19 points on the board, their lone TD being a pick 6. The Colts? 10 points. Except for 2021 which didn’t end well, Frank Reich has done a solid job of turning mediocre first half of seasons into decent campaigns overall. Here we go again.
