The Indianapolis Colts just suffered a narrow loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend, losing 38-31 at home. They get a nice bounce back matchup this week, though, as they travel to play the Houston Texans. Houston is coming off of a disappointing loss to the New York Jets but they have shown the ability to surprise some teams at random times this year. Could they get another miracle and knock off the Colts or will Indianapolis make light work of them?

Indy is a 9.5-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 46.0.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Colts have been good at rebounding after a tough loss against the spread with a 5-0 ATS record in their past five matchups when losing the previous game. Indianapolis is also 5-1 ATS in their last six matchups when coming into the game as the road favourite. This team is 8-0-1 ATS in their last nine meetings against the Texans on the road as well.

On the other hand, the Texans are 4-1 ATS in their last five games when they are listed as the home underdog. They are also 4-1 ATS in their past five matchups against teams in the AFC South. The under has been able to cash out in five of their last six games overall though and their last four when going up against teams in the AFC.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts have a pretty easy path to victory if they are able to stick to a game plan that works. Last week, they tried to attack their opponents’ strengths rather than go with what they are best at: that is running the football with Jonathan Taylor. Taylor has been arguably the best running back in the league with Derrick Henry out of commission and he leads the league in rushing yards. He has 1,205 rushing yards on the season and is the only back to even surpass 1,000 yards.

The last time Taylor met with Houston, he ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns on just 14 carries. Indianapolis is a terrific football team when their offence runs through him, so they can’t overthink their matchup.

Houston Texans

The Texans had a huge upset win over the Tennessee Titans and then followed it up with a dud against the Jets. Tyrod Taylor has had some strong performances this year but then he had horrible ones like last week when he threw for 158 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Brandin Cooks is a stellar weapon out wide but there is simply no other talent on the offence to really help him flourish. A name to look out for is Jonathan Greenard on the defensive end. He has eight sacks on the year and understands the Colts’ offensive line, a group that surrendered four sacks last week. The bigger issue is the Texans have the league’s second-worst run defence, giving up 135.6 rushing yards per game. That part of the team will have to overachieve if the Texans are to pick up the win.
