Colts vs. Texans Point Spread: NFL Week 2 Odds, Prediction
It’s an AFC South battle on Sunday afternoon as the Houston Texans play host to the Indianapolis Colts. Both teams suffered losses in Week 1, with the Texans falling 25-9 in Baltimore and the Colts losing 31-21 at home against Jacksonville.
Houston is a 1.5-point favourite to win on the NFL odds, while the total sits at 39.0.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
These teams opened and closed their regular season schedules against each last year and the series was just about as close as possible. They tied 20-20 in Houston in Week 1 and the Texans won 32-31 in Indianapolis in Week 18. Houston blew a 20-3 lead entering the fourth quarter in the first game and neither team could score on two overtime possessions. Despite earning the win in Week 18, it was a bitter pill for the Texans as it actually cost them the first overall pick in the 2023 draft.
Prior to last season, the Colts had won seven of the last eight meetings between the teams. The games have been low scoring over the last few years, with the total going Under in eight of the last 10 meetings, including five straight games in Houston.
Indianapolis Colts
Rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson’s NFL debut was spoiled thanks to a late interception, but outside of the error it was a solid showing for the 2023 fourth overall draft pick. Richardson completed 24 of 27 pass attempts for 223 yards, one touchdown and the costly pick. He also led the Colts with 40 rushing yards and a TD on four carries. Richardson sat out the final minute of the game because of a sore knee, but it isn’t expected to be an issue in Week 2.
Indy’s run-game is cause for concern at the moment. Jonathan Taylor, the 2021 NFL rushing champ, is still on the PUP list following off-season ankle surgery, while Zack Moss is out of the lineup because of a broken arm.
Houston Texans
The Texans finally got a look at rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud in regular season action as the 2023 second overall draft pick made his NFL debut last week. Stroud completed 28 of 44 pass attempts for 242 yards and added another 20 yards on four carries. The highly valued rookie failed to find the end zone, but he also avoided throwing an interception and led Houston on a couple of solid drives.
The Texans’ defence is dealing with a few notable injury issues. Safety Jimmie Ward was inactive in Week 1 because of a hip injury and likely won’t be ready for Sunday. Fellow safety Jalen Pitre was hospitalized after suffering a bruised lung in Week 1. Pitre was released from the hospital on Monday and is listed as day-to-day. Defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway will miss at least four games after suffering a calf injury last week.
