The Monday Nighter heads to Baltimore, with the Ravens welcoming the Indianapolis Colts.
The season already might be on the line for the disappointing Indianapolis Colts as they visit the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night in Week 5 of the NFL season. The Ravens are 7-point favourites to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 47 points.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Few if any teams have been hit harder by injuries in camp/early season than the Colts and Ravens. Baltimore has largely overcome those injuries in a 3-1 start, while Indianapolis is 1-3. It should be noted that teams which start 1-4 rarely make the playoffs but what might be Indy’s saving grace is playing in a weak AFC South Division where no team is better than 2-2.
Of course, the Colts used to be in Baltimore but moved to Indianapolis in a shocker ahead of the 1984 season and it led to the creation of the Ravens starting in the 1996 season. So there’s still a bit of a rivalry here.
Indianapolis leads the all-time series 10-6, including playoffs. The teams met Week 9 last year in Indy and the Ravens won 24-10 despite trailing 10-7 deep into the third quarter. Lamar Jackson didn’t throw for a TD but rushed for one. Baltimore also had a defensive touchdown and forced two turnovers. Philip Rivers was the Indy QB then but is now retired.
Despite that loss, the Colts are 10-2 ATS in the past 12 meetings.
Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis temporarily saved its season Sunday with a 27-17 upset win in Miami despite missing a handful of injured starters. The defence still dominated – although that’s not tough these days against the Dolphins – in allowing just 203 yards and much of that with the game already in hand.
Carson Wentz continues to play through a pair of sprained ankles and threw for 228 yards and two scores, both to tight end Mo Alie-Cox. Wentz had lost seven straight starts dating to last year with the Eagles. Jonathan Taylor rushed for 103 and a TD on 16 carries. The Colts had 33 rushing plays in Week 4, which was their highest total of the season.
One key player who missed the game was All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson — he had played in all 54 since being drafted, including playoffs. Too early to know if he can go here. Indianapolis is 6-2 ATS in its past eight road games.
Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore won its third in a row Sunday, trouncing the previously unbeaten Broncos 23-7 in Denver. Lamar Jackson threw for 316 yards (just the second 300-yard game of his career) and a touchdown and rushed for 28 yards. Latavius Murray in a minor surprise took over as the featured back for Ty’Son Williams, who was inactive. Murray rushed for 59 yards and a TD. Baltimore rushed for at least 100 yards for a 43rd straight game, tying the NFL record. The Ravens got it in cheap fashion, though, as Jackson ran for 5 yards on the final play of the game to reach 100 instead of taking a knee.
Baltimore’s defence played its best game of the season with five sacks, 11 quarterback hits and they knocked Broncos QB Teddy Bridgewater out of the game with a concussion. It’s possible Ravens first-round rookie WR Rashod Bateman makes his NFL debut in this one. He was injured in camp and had surgery. The Ravens are 12-5 ATS in their past 17 Monday games.
