This is a game to pay attention to when it comes to the playoff picture in the AFC, as the Colts and Raiders both continue to grind toward clinching a spot in the post season.

After potentially one of the worst defensive calls in recent NFL history led to a last second win over the New York Jets (and the Jets defensive coordinator being fired), the 7-5 Las Vegas Raiders welcome the 8-4 Indianapolis Colts in a matchup with big playoff implications.  Fresh off a win of their own, over the Texans, the Colts enter this game as 3-point favourites on the NFL odds with a total of 51.5.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Colts are 4-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last four games as a road favourite and are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games when coming off a game with at least 250 passing yards.  The over is 6-1 in Indy’s last seven games on grass.

Las Vegas comes into this game with a 5-1 record ATS in their last six games versus an AFC opponent.  The over is 5-1-1 in the Raiders last seven games as the underdog and 5-1 in their last six games following a straight up win.

Indianapolis Colts

Last week’s 26-20 road win over the Texans is in large part due to the Colts accomplishing what no other team has managed to do this year, prevent Deshaun Watson from throwing a single TD pass.  While their pass defence has been good and also picked up an interception in the Houston game, the Colts sit in the middle of the pack on third down stoppage at 40.7 per cent (15th) while their pass rush has picked up 28 sacks (T-15th).

Philip Rivers has been consistent this year and is coming off another solid performance last week.  The veteran QB threw for 285 yards and two TDs, bringing his total to 18 TDs on the year.  Receiver T.Y. Hilton was Rivers’ favourite target and had a breakout game, finishing with 110 receiving yards and two TDs, for his first 100+ receiving yard game of the season.

Las Vegas Raiders

After nearly giving the Jets their first win of the season, the Raiders are lucky not to be 6-6 right now.  Despite the near miss, a win is a win and Las Vegas has a great opportunity with a home game this week.  Quarterback Derek Carr is coming off a game with 381 passing yards and three TDs, while tight end Darren Waller had a monster game with a season-high 200 receiving yards and two TDs.

The Las Vegas offence has been solid all season long in third down situations, converting them 48.7 per cent of the time, the third best number in the NFL.  The Raiders defence has been another story.  Their pass rush hasn’t been able to pressure quarterbacks, only picking up 15 sacks on the year, which is tied with the Jaguars for 29th in the league.  The defence is, however, coming off a solid effort in New York.  Las Vegas managed to hold Jets QB Sam Darnold to just 186 passing yards and sacked him three times.
