Saturday takes the reins of a slumping Colts squad that saw their current straight up losing streak extend to three games with last weekend’s crushing 26-3 loss in New England. Things have not gone much better for the Raiders, who return home buried in last place in the AFC West standings after going winless on a two-game road trip, capped by last week’s 27-20 defeat in Jacksonville.
Saturday’s hiring has failed to give the Colts a lift on the NFL Week 10 odds, where they have faded to 6-point underdogs after opening at +3.5, while garnering the support of just 28% of sports bettors. The total has also declined to 42.5 since opening at 43, with the UNDER attracting 61% of the betting action.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Sunday afternoon’s matchup at Allegiant Stadium marks the fifth regular season meeting between these teams in as many seasons, and the Colts first visit to Sin City in two years. Road teams have enjoyed steady success in head-to-head action, claiming victory in the past four clashes between these squads, capped by the Raiders 23-20 victory as 8.5-point road underdogs in Week 17 of last season. Recent matchups have tended toward high scoring, with the total hitting 55 or higher in five of their past seven, sparking a 5-2-0 run for the OVER.
Indianapolis Colts
Jeff Saturday inherits a Colts squad with nowhere to go but up after suffering their third straight loss last week in New England. The Colts have averaged just 9.7 points per game during their current slide, and now rank dead last in the NFL with just 14.7 points scored per game. Indeed, things have gone particularly bad for this offense on the road, where they have averaged just 6.3 points per game over their past four contests. The decision to hand the reins of the offense to second-year pivot Sam Ehlinger has failed to provide a spark. Ehlinger particularly struggled last week against the patriots, completing just 15 of 29 pass attempts for just 103 yards and one pick while getting sacked nine times. Complicating matters is continued concern over the health of running back Jonathan Taylor, who missed last week’s date in New England with an ankle injury. Taylor returned to practice this week, but if the star rusher is unavailable once again this week, Ehlinger will enjoy limited options on the ground. That adds to the pressure on the Colts defence, which has been steadily worn down by opponents over the past three weeks.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders saw their current road woes extended with last week’s defeat at the hands of the Jaguars, which extended their current road losing streak to six games. Fortunately, they have enjoyed more success on home turf, where they have tallied two straight wins and claimed victory in four of five since late December. But to maintain that momentum, the Raiders must find ways to spark an attack that has foundered during their dismal two-game road trip, particularly after halftime. The squad has been held scoreless after recess in each of their past two contests, and squandered a 10-point halftime lead while surrendering 17 unanswered points in last week’s loss in Jacksonville. Overall, the Raiders have been held to seven or fewer second-half points in four of their eight outings to date. However, scoring points has not been a problem during the team’s current two-game win streak at home. But while the squad has averaged 35 points per game over that stretch, quarterback Derek Carr tossed for just one total score in those contests.
