The Giants’ recent struggles continued with last week’s 27-24 loss in Minnesota that marked their fifth defeat in seven games. However, with an 8-6-1 straight up record, the Giants maintain control of the No. 6 seed in the NFC. The Colts travel to the Big Apple looking for answers after dropping a 20-3 decision to the Los Angeles Chargers last weekend that extends their current straight up losing streak to five games.

With the backing of 85% of sports bettors, the Giants have soared to 6-point favourites since opening at -3. The total has been in steady decline since opening at 41.5, tumbling to 39.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Sunday afternoon’s matchup at MetLife Stadium marks the first meeting between these teams since 2018. The Colts have earned the win in each of their past four dates with the Giants, including a decisive 40-24 when they last visited New York back in 2014. Recent clashes between these teams have been high scoring, with the total topping four times during a 5-1 run for the OVER.

Indianapolis Colts

Yet another new look under center failed to spark the Colts in last weekend’s loss to LA. In the wake of the team’s historic meltdown while suffering a 39-36 loss to Minnesota two weeks ago, the team elected to once again bench veteran pivot Matt Ryan in favour of former Super Bowl hero Nick Foles. And the results were disastrous. Making just his second start since 2020, Foles failed to find the end zone while tossing for 143 yards and three interceptions, and was sacked seven times. Despite penetrating the Chargers redzone just once and turning over the ball on four of the Colts’ five possessions after recess, Foles will once again get the call on Sunday.

While Indy once again is faced with the challenge of generating consistent offense, their bigger problem on Sunday will likely be sparking a dismal defence that has surrendered 46.5 points per game over their past two road dates. The defence has been equally inept at stopping the pass and rush, allowing seven touchdown passes and seven scoring runs over the past three weeks.

New York Giants

A date with the freefalling Colts may be just what the doctor ordered for a sputtering Giants attack, which has generated just 20.7 points per game over their past five outings. The Giants have been cursed by slow starts during their recent slide, and have been outscored by a combined 27-0 margin in the first quarter over their past four games. In addition to forcing the hand of the Giants offence, the team’s recent slow starts have fueled a worrisome reversal in fortune for this team on defence, which has allowed 27.7 points per game over their past six outings after surrendering 19.2 points per game through their first nine games.

Despite finding himself regularly under the gun, and forced to work with a receiving corps that has suffered its fair share of injuries, quarterback Daniel Jones has remained steady. Jones tossed for 334 yards last week and has found the endzone in six of his past seven outings. Jones has also benefited from Saquon Barkley’s comeback performance this season. Barkley recorded his 10th scoring run of the season last weekend while compiling 84 rushing yards, and has averaged 89.5 rushing yards in six road appearances this season.
