The only Sunday game in Week 5 that features a pair of 2018 playoff teams facing off is Indianapolis at Kansas City, with the Chiefs as double-digit favourites.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Looking at this matchup just reminds NFL fans what they are missing with the retirement of Colts quarterback Andrew Luck back in August. He and Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes could have formed one of the AFC’s best quarterback rivalries for the foreseeable future, a la Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady.

Luck’s last NFL game — at least for now – was in Kansas City in the Divisional Round of last season’s playoffs. The Colts had won in Houston the week before but weren’t much of a match for the top-seeded Chiefs in a 31-13 loss. Mahomes didn’t throw a touchdown but had 278 yards and rushed for a score. Kansas City, which scored on its first three possessions, had 180 yards rushing and four touchdowns on the ground. It was Kansas City’s first home playoff win in 25 years. Luck was just OK in the loss, throwing for 203 yards and a touchdown.

The Colts are 7-2 ATS in their past nine in Kansas City. The total has gone under in four of the previous five meetings.

Indianapolis Colts

Indy was upset 31-24 at home by Oakland on Sunday. Jacoby Brissett threw for 265 yards and three scores but his one interception was returned for a touchdown. The Colts rushed for only 81 yards while allowing 188. Starting Colts receivers T.Y. Hilton and Devin Funchess both sat out injured and too early to tell if they will play here. Also out was linebacker Darius Leonard (concussion), last season’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, and safety Malik Hooker (knee). They were clearly missed. Indianapolis is 8-1 ATS in its past nine vs. teams with a winning record.

Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City remained unbeaten with a come-from-behind 34-30 win in Detroit on Sunday. c scored on a 1-yard TD run with 20 seconds to go. It was his second rushing score. Mahomes had another rare game without a TD pass but threw for 315 yards and wasn’t picked off. He still hasn’t lost a September game in his young career. It did stop his streak of regular-season games with at least two TD passes at 14, one shy of Peyton Manning’s NFL record.

Top running back Damien Williams, offensive tackle Eric Fisher and Pro Bowl receiver Tyreek Hill all sat with injuries. Hill for sure will miss this one as well. Kansas City is 5-1 ATS in its past six vs. the AFC.
