Indianapolis fans have circled the Colts’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals on their calendar – but not this one. While the Colts and Bengals will kick off the regular season at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sept. 9, they’ll also face off to close out their respective pre-seasons Thursday night at Paul Brown Stadium. The majority of both teams’ starters will sit this one out – including Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, who is expected to play in Week 1.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The line for this game has held fairly steady, with Cincinnati enjoying the edge by virtue of having home-field advantage. The Bengals are riding high with successful covers in four straight pre-season games following a 2-5 ATS stretch. The Colts have also been a strong exhibition option over the past few years, coming into this one having covered six of their past eight pre-season contests while winning five of those outright.

Yet, for as good a play as Indianapolis has been against the spread, it has been even more of a lock in totals play. The Colts have converted the under in seven of their previous eight games, with four of those contests sporting a total below 40. Cincinnati is also trending toward the under, having gone 2-6 O/U in its previous eight games – including a 1-3 mark over that span when the number sat below 40.

Indianapolis Colts

The visiting Colts used to be an automatic win for the home team in pre-season play – but not anymore. Since a truly dismal stretch in which Indianapolis won just three of 20 exhibition road games, the Colts have gone a blistering 5-1 SU and 6-0 ATS in their previous six pre-season contests played away from Lucas Oil Stadium. However, the Colts didn’t exactly dominate in the process: four of those victories have come by four or fewer points.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals – or at least, their second- and third-stringers – would love to reverse a trend that has seen the club surrender 57 points in its past two exhibition home games. Prior to that ugly show of defence, Cincinnati had held foes below 20 points in six straight pre-season home outings, allowing a minuscule 11.5 points per game in that span. They went 4-2 SU in those games, with one of their defeats coming at the hands of the Colts back in 2016.
