Chiefs vs. Rams Point Spread: NFL Week 11 Odds, Prediction
The Super Bowl hype is real for the Chiefs and Rams on this Monday night. These two teams have combined for 18 wins with only two losses, and both teams are filled with MVP candidates. According to ESPN Stats & Information that over-under in this game set at 64 is the highest total since record-keeping began 1986.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Since 1997 the Chiefs and Rams have met six times, with Kansas City winning all six games. These two teams differ in success in Monday night games with the Chiefs 5-1 against the spread in their last six games, and the Rams 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games on Monday nights. Dating back to last season, the Chiefs are 1-4 ATS in their last five games in November, but 12-3 ATS overall (including 8-2 ATS this season). The Rams are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games and 4-6 ATS this season.
Kansas City Chiefs
Through 10 games this season quarterback Patrick Mahomes is an early favourite for league MVP. His Chiefs offence own the league’s record for second ranked scoring team; averaging 35.3 points per game, are third in total offence (423.1), and fourth in passing (305.5). Mahomes has been so good that he’s already set a Chiefs team record with 31 passing touchdowns surpassing Hall of Famer Len Dawson’s mark in 1964. Mahomes did it in 10 games. Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce have combined for 15 touchdowns and just under 1700 yards receiving this season. The defence however has been a different story.
Currently ranked 29th in total defence, but there has been some success stories. Linebacker Dee Ford is tied for third in sacks with nine; his teammate Chris Jones has seven. Also Anthony Hickens is fourth in the NFL with 80 tackles. The glaring weakness to watch on Monday night will be the teams rush defence. They are 23rd in the league in that category allowing an average of 121.7 yards per game. That is a mouth-watering stat for the league leading rusher, Todd Gurley who is closing in on being the first NFL rushing back to hit the 1000+ yard plateau.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams defence hasn’t played as well as anticipated at the start of the season, dropping out of the top 10, and currently ranked 13th in total defence (355.2). In the last three games (2-1) they have allowed an average of 34.3 points per game. Defensive End Aaron Donald continues to be a force, leading the league in sacks with 12.5. Speaking of defence, cornerback Marcus Peters is looking forward to this game, as he plays against the team that traded him in the off-season. Perhaps the Chiefs are looking forward to it as well, as Peters is ranked 108 among 117 cornerbacks that have played at least 20 percent of snaps.
Running back Todd Gurley is the MVP answer to Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs. Gurley is first in the league in rushing (988 yards), first in the league in rushing attempts (198), first in yards from scrimmage (1390). He also has touchdowns in 13 consecutive games. Another option at MVP is quarterback Jared Goff. Goff’s 3134 yards passing is second to Mahomes. He has 22 touchdowns and only six interceptions. No quarterback in the NFL has more pass plays consisting of 20 yards or more than Goff; he already has 50 of those plays.
Of note, the Rams received some terrible news earlier in the week when it was announced that receiver Cooper Kupp will be lost for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.
