Chiefs vs. Packers Point Spread: NFL Week 13 Odds, Prediction

Nothing better than a primetime football game from historic Lambeau Field in Green Bay as the mediocre Packers host Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night in Week 13. KC is a 6.5-point favourite to win on the NFL odds.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Needless to say, this matchup loses a lot of luster with Aaron Rodgers no longer in Green Bay. The New York Jets as Patrick Mahomes vs. Rodgers would be a game for the ages but Mahomes vs. Jordan Love … not quite so much. Although Love is getting better.

Of course, Rodgers sat and learned for a few years in the NFL behind Brett Favre before taking over as the starter and launching a Hall of Fame career. Mahomes sat his entire rookie season behind Alex Smith – other than a meaningless finale – before taking over as the starter and launching a Hall of Fame career. Love was a 2020 first-round pick who sat behind Rodgers his first three years. How he fares down the stretch absolutely will determine whether the Packers feel the need to select a quarterback fairly early in the 2024 draft.

This marks the third time in the last four meetings that a Packers-Chiefs matchup has been a prime-time game (2015 on Monday night and 2019 on Sunday night). The teams last met in 2021 in Kansas City in what was Love’s first career start as Rodgers was out with COVID. The Chiefs won 13-7 as defences dominated. Green Bay has still won two of the last three matchups, including the last home game (2015). Six of the last eight games have been decided by seven points or fewer.

Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City is 8-3, atop the AFC West and almost sure to win it again and maybe earn the AFC’s top seed yet again, but they haven’t looked anything like a Super Bowl championship team at times this season, especially on offence. Things were looking bleak early in Sunday’s game in Las Vegas down 14-0, but Kansas City rallied for a 31-17 win. The Chiefs had just 13 yards of offence when Las Vegas pulled ahead by 14 points early in the second quarter, but the defence held the Raiders to only 137 yards following their first three drives. Kansas City is the only team in the NFL to hold the opposition under 25 total points in every game this season, the first time since 2013 that a team began a season with 11 consecutive games in that scenario.

Patrick Mahomes threw for two scores and second-year back Isiah Pacheco rushed for two scores, the first multi-score game of his career. Mahomes is now 15-11 in his career when trailing by double digits. That’s crazy. Sunday’s comeback was the third-largest of Mahomes’ career. Future Hall of Fame coach Andy Reid recorded his 125th regular-season victory with Kansas City, moving him past Hank Stram for the most wins in franchise history. Reid is now the only head coach in NFL history to own the most all-time wins for multiple franchises because he also leads all Eagles coaches in victories.

Green Bay Packers

Early this season, it didn’t look like Jordan Love was Green Bay’s QB of the future and maybe he still isn’t, but the former first-round pick has looked much better the past two weeks in wins over the Chargers and Lions to salvage some wild card hopes at 5-6. Love has five TD passes and no picks over that two-game run. Green Bay was simply better than NFC North-leading Detroit as it never trailed and took advantage of Jared Goff’s career-high three fumbles — returning one for a score in the first quarter. The Packers had scored 20 or fewer points in seven of their first 10 games. They scored 20 in the first quarter against the Lions in the 29-22 road upset.

Former Michigan star Rashan Gary was a one-man wrecking crew with three sacks and two forced fumbles, recovering one. He got a game ball. That the Packers won with the likes RB Aaron Jones (knee), CB Jaire Alexander (shoulder) and LB De’Vondre Campbell (neck) all inactive made it that much more impressive. The schedule gets much easier after Kansas City.
